The Archer weight limit

Hello fellow Archer owners,

 

just wanted to let you know some details on the weight limit of this sled. I've been using this rig for over a year now, and had a lot of jobs on it. Ranging from 1/3" cams to heavy 16mm.

 

The sled is not the weight limiter. The G-50 is. The 50 can take a load of 22,5 kilos. My sled has weighed up to 25 kilos. So subtract the weight of the sled itself, 4 kilos, and you end up with 21 kilos. That's what I've flown on it. But this gimbal is strong. I'm confident that it can take even more. How far is unknown, since Tiffen hasn't had a destruction test on it. So the G-50 was a bit too weak, in my experience.

 

So after discussing this matter with Jerry Holway, (thanks for all the help) I ordered a G-70. I know some of you with bigger rigs than the Archer, will flip out reading this, but I believe in this rig. It's incredibly versatile. The only thing I miss is a third post. Maybe in a few years I'll buy a U2 or a PRO, but for now this Archer is great.

 

You will need to upgrade your rig in order to do this;

 

you need,

 

- a 24volts system (already made ready for it, you just need to add the wires and extra battery plate)

- custom plate and the bottom of the rig, due to heavy top loads and a too light battery module

- not a LX vest, you need Ultra vest

- make a custom post to fit the Archer gimbal

 

That's my experience so far. If any other Archer owners have any other views, I'd gladly hear them.

 

Typical heavy film set-up on the Archer;

 

- Arri SR3 12,5 kilo (w/ mag, and a wide angle lens, so weight may, vary depending on lens type)

- Archos HDR 300g (w/ cables)

- The-boxx.tv wireless video 500g (w/ cables)

- BFD 1 kilo

- Archer rig 4 kilos (w/ monitor)

- custom plate 2 kilos

- AB Hytron 120 2,5 kilos

- Extra battery plate 300g

- 2nd battery 1 kilo (NP-1 style)
