65mm on steadicam

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

From having operated Steadicam myself some years ago, I would not myself undertake this task. But is it possible to get an Arri 765 on a steadicam? That is the 65mm camera...

If not, which I can understand, are there any other 65mm cameras anyone can recommend? I've heard of Panavision HSHR, but since I live in Europe Panavision cameras are not readily available in my local camera store.

Thanks in advance.

All the best

Marcel

I operated a bunch with a Todd AO 65mm camera (MOS/ noisy) about 10 years ago... had to take my video assist camera and add a 10 or 12mm C mount lens to it and tape it to the viewfinder... but it worked and it's not the heaviest thing out there.

Hi Marcel,

On the Ron Howard movie "Far & Away" I know Greg Lundsgaard flew a 65mm camera a lot. If you or anyone else here can get you in touch with Greg, I'm sure he could give you a lot of information.

Best,

I was there. The camera was the "spinning mirror" 65mm from Panavision. Kind of a stripped down version of the System 65 camera that was used for A camera. Rusty Geller also operated with that camera. He can be reached at: gellers@bigpond.net.au

This was before I operated Steadicam. I got to operate the Arri 765. It was really fun to scan that big frame in the eyepiece.

Several years ago, I flew an "IWORKS" camera for an IMAX film. 65mm, MOS, and well balanced for Steadicam (vertical mag). I think it weighed in at around 50 lbs. My old, pumped up, 3A arm did the job. No idea where the camera came from but I would imagine it is still out there.
