Big thanks Will for posting the ad and background information, fascinating.

Are you absolutely sure there was not three of the girls, triplets ?

If you have a moment Id love to know how you got the wall back so quickly ?

Can you posssibly tell me a little more about why the rig length was important getting through the window ?

What would you have done differently if the AR was not available ?

Do you have the girls phone numbers ?

Fabulous shot and inspirational.

Matt,

If you check out the behind-the-scenes photos at the beginning of this thread, you'll see that there was a cut-out in the wall for him to pass through. My guess is that the cut-out was removed after the lens zoomed into the deodorant, and was then replaced when the girl is looking at the bathroom mirror.

BTW, Great job Will...very inspiring.

Dam thats a sweet shot, how the hell did you get the opening window shot ?

The photos are a touch misleading. The entire wall slid open a la Citizen Kane. We moved in and zoomed in all the way on the move in order to lose the wall soon enough to have time to open it before I hit it. We slowly zoom out as I've made the move around the product and up to our lady, while the wall is being slid back into place. The only digital help was to cover up the crack in the wall where the seam was running up and down next to the window.

Thanks for the congrats everybody. Means a lot. It was an extremely challenging project.

Now, who will buy this AR off me?

very nice shot will!

interesting note though; i saw this shot on tv last night, but the product was 'degree' deodorant, not the 'sure' spray tube that you see in the youtube commercial. also the commercial was cut up into about 4 or 5 different shots, and was compressed to 30 seconds.

did you shoot a blue plate for the product for more freedom of product sales in post? what's the deal?

again, nice shot!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the props. No plate was shot. On the first big rainy day we had we shot that first part of the shot over and over again with different products. Through the bathroom window, down the hallway to the kitchen then whip pan into the lobby. We worked 1 day just doing this and getting it down to 10 seconds. We had the visual effects supervisors there and they would A/B my shot and have me do the whip pan into the Lobby at a very specific point in relation to the door way, at the same exact tilt angle and whip-pan speed. That was challenging. But it meant they could use different products at the front of the spot and not be committed to the rest of the take, which had it's own challenges and pitfalls to avoid.

Although we always did the whole shot in it's entirety after that rainy day, this meant they could use the latter 47 seconds with any product at the head of the shot, which means that the you tube 60 sec clip may not have a cut at the whip pan from the kitchen to lobby. If anyone sees it with different product then it was definitely cut.

That's a drag that they are airing a 30 that is cut up. That was never the concept. We did a 30 where we changed the lobby to be the revolving door where our lady comes out and spills the businessman's coffee in the 60. That is what is pictured in the photos when you have the lady's running in the foreground and me getting on the crane down on the street level, not up on the ramp as we did in the 60. In the same fashion, I duplicated the whip pan from the kitchen doorway to start the 30 (20) so they could still use the the front 10 seconds with any product they liked. I had to start that whip pan on one knee! In order to match the height coming out of the kitchen and find our lady in the same relative frame size and distance of the new, cheated (for the 30) lobby as she leaves the building (no dogs, car etc.)

Thanks for the question, I'd forgot that we had to do all that for the 30 & 10's.

Cheers,

Will

sounds fun will :) nice to have a commentary along with behind the scenes photos and the actual commercial.

it's funny how the audience of today is so used to CG and visual effects. my girlfriend watched the 60 second clip and thought it was the usual 'post trickery'.

any comments on how whip pans with the AR?
