What you like.. what you don't like. Ideas... Please keep in mind that: - I'm not a web designer. -The site that I am currently using is free web space so at the moment we have to put up with the banners. We will eventually move the web site to Ad-Free web space. I've also been thinking about having steadicam ops submit Articles w/photos for the Guild web site. (Kind of like the old SOA news letters) I really miss those. The Forum is nice for this kind of info but that info sometimes gets lost and forgotten and you can only put up one photo at a time.. That's a good question. The Steadicam guild is made up of primarily U.S. operators and in particular L.A. operators. All of the meetings that we have had (so far) have been held in the L.A. area. Any steadicam operator who applies for and meets the criteria for membership, whether they are local or not, can do so. Members regardless of where they live are always welcome to come to our meetings, demos and workshops held here in L.A. I have suggested, in the past, that operators from other areas in the U.S. as well as other countries form their own "local" steadicam guild and hold their own meetings, demos and workshops. As a matter of fact Steven Murphy from Ireland is President of the Irish branch of the Steadicam guild! Check out the November 2002 Forum archives. If you look at the "Calendar" section of the guild website you'll see that I've included notices about Steadicam workshops that are being held not only in New York but also as far away as Australia. In the "Gallery" section we have photos of 2 operators that live in Australia! If anyone has Steadicam/industry related news that's noteworthy, I would be more than happy to post it. The great thing about having the info here is that we are an International community. I know other groups of the Guild could start up, but the way I see it, information belongs here. The idea of multiple Guilds with criteria to become a member just seems so... un-community, un-Steadicam like. Don't get me wrong, the get togethers and demos are great, but I think the buck stops there. Info. etc. should be here. Multiple web sites is just a pain. Remember the AOL days? The SOA site (when it had its own forum instead of a link to here). That is why this site was started. Have a link to here (if you don't already; see how much attention I already give your site - no offense - as an East Coaster?). The forum pops up in the main window of the guild web site! I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't post information here at all. I'm not trying to take away from the forum. I'm just asking for articles that are dedicated to the advancement, education and the art of steadicam. A place where not only Steadicam operators can go but where anyone can go to find out information about what we are all about. I see it as an organized database of information w/pictures. Finding info on this particluar forum can be difficult. Like the post "Fred Davis where are you?" Remember? As far as multiple guilds go.. will they be formed? Only if you decide to take on the challenge and say, hey, lets meet here and talk! I only suggested others start their own "guild". This is by no means a "union" It's just a bunch of guys and gals with common interest getting together, sharing ideas, coming up with new toys that help us in our daily work... much like the forum here. It will be up to each area to decide if they want to get together, have functions like we do here on the west coast. As far as web sites go... I wasn't planning to have multiple web sites at all. I already maintain 2 web sites and thats plenty.. :) If for example the East coast starts to have gathering and you tell me about it I would be more than happy to post it on the guild calendar. It's simple to add info. Dan Kneece came up with the one rule that we have for membership and I agree with it 100%. I think if you ask Dan about the Guild he would be able to tell you his vision for it. Dan and I have thrown a lot of ideas around and we have a lot of planning going on for future guild events that will benefit our members greatly. I'm really looking forward to it. I am a novice web designer no doubt, but I'm constantly working on it (not...everyday). My 30 day demo of flash MX 2004 has unfortunately expired so... I can't do any flash work on it right now. The free geocities web page building program is a very limiting so I can only do so much. As far as the design, I modeled it after the http://www.cameraguild.com web site. Of course i wouldnt want to see anything taken away from this forum, but as David suggests it would be great if/ when a topic was finished, someone was able to author a newsletter and store it on the guild website. For example, over the years Larry has given several excellent posts on his use of Gyros. If memory serves these have been spread over several forums, and its a topic that gets brought up every year. Wouldnt it be great if along with his original Steadicam newsletter on the subject, there was an updated one including all of the new posts/information? Sort of a definitive collection of Larrys thoughts on Gyro use. Thats just an example, and im sure there are plenty more. I dont think Davids trying in any way to take anything away from this forum or to split it: of course doing this means someone has to sit down and write the letters/artcles:) - sorry Larry:) Viva la presidente Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The CML has a wonderful archive section on its website (cinematography.net), where a DP has painstakingly gone through many of the posts over the years and created informative documents culled from the various discussion threads. It's an excellent reference. Think about how many times Fred has had to post here about the pin outs on the 4-pin Hirose connector for the Master/EFP. Your idea of updating articles from the older steadicam newletters is a really good one. Anyone know where the SOA is at on their newsletters? Are they being archived will they be available or... Jerry? Garrett? gnespolo, What? You don't like Bush? What's wrong with Bushy? ;) I don't see him winning the next election. If he wins, I think we're all in trouble.
