bobgilles
Peter, stop by the Red One booth and ask if you can fly their cam on the flyer, Peter Jackson used Steadicam on their test movie. I wonder what Steadicam model he used, this camera is the star of 2007.

Premium Members James Puli Posted April 28, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2007 Hey Bob and everyone. As said in another thread, we did put the Red Camera on a Steadicam twice. First with an Archer and then Steve Fracols' Ultra 2. Camera flew very well, similar to an F900 in weight and length. Check out Miko Wilsons pics in the other thread. The Red guys were'nt sure who the Steadicam Operator was on Peter Jacksons film and the person wasnt creditted. They just said that in their opening presentation it was used and that was about it, it wasnt mentioned again. And when I asked directly, they were'nt 100% positive it was used. Premium Members Steve Fracol SOC Posted April 28, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2007 James, As said in another thread, we did put the Red Camera on a Steadicam twice. First with an Archer and then Steve Fracols' Ultra 2. Camera flew very well, similar to an F900 in weight and length. I just wanted to make this more clear. The way THE RED camera we had to fly was set up with a drive and one battery on board and hanging off the back it was about the weight of a VariCam with ENG lens but the length of a CineAlta 900 with converter on back. But all is very modular and that same camera could move the batt and drive to the top of the camera making the profile more like a 435. No worries, just wanted to make sure everyone is clear that it was not the weight of a 900 cine alta. The Red is very light weight. Best, Steve Fracol
Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted April 28, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2007 Agreed. First of all, my thanks to the many Operators who joined us last Monday evening, and who stopped by during the week to enjoy the fellowship at the Tiffen booth and check out the new Steadicam systems. It was great to see everyone ! The day before Steve put it up, I went down there with the Archer system. ( Top camera payload: 23 pounds). The prototype they gave to us was non-functioning but we wanted to see how it would do. We put up the body, a large prime and a clip-on mattebox. They let me hold the Hard Drive in it's housing. Very light, almost inconsequential in terms of a larger rig. As Steve said, what IS of consequence was the modularity of the system, and how the battery and HD could be configured differently around the body. Excellently thought out. It was nifty to be the second person to fly the Red on a Steadicam ( and, Steve the third ! ). The images I saw in the screening were indescribable. We have witnessed a real shift in the paradigm. Very cool !! Peter Abraham
Premium Members James Puli Posted April 28, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 28, 2007 (edited) Thanks Steve for the clarification. I must have missed the part where they said the drive can be mounted elsewhere on the camera. Peter, thanks to you and everyone from Steadicam for being so welcoming around the booth and at the get together. It was a fantastic environment to be in and I had an awesome time. See you all at Cinegear! JP Edited April 28, 2007 by James Puli
