Hi Ryan, the logo is a graphic at this point so I'm not sure it's a font persea. I'm sure there are similar fonts out there though. If you're going to use the STEADICAM logo it's a registered trademark of The Tiffen Company and something you should ask permission to use first. They allowed me to use it on my web site, film book ad and business card but there are specific conditions that go along with it's use and how to use it. Contact Frank Rush at Tiffen if that is what you want to do.

I think it may actually be a font; the news agency Ananova also uses the same, or a very similar, typeface.

Even if it is a font, using the name "Steadicam", in any font, in any way without permission from Tiffen is a trademark violation. Not to say that it can't be done, but do take Brant's advice and contact the necessary people first.

Tiffen has been actively fighting the trademark battle lately. It seems every week someone new comes out of nowhere with a camera stabilizer to sell. Very frequently, to attract customers, they'll use the term "Steadicam" or variations of it to advertise. All of which are violations. This is a great testament to GB and the crew for building such a recognizable brand, but it is obviously not without its headaches.

Over the years I have seen the use of the original Steadicam Logo and derivation of it, on business cards, posters, T-shirt's, etc. for personal and steadicam related company use. So it has been done and I'm sure if you are a genuine Steadicam owner/operator and not using it to advertise your non genuine products but would like to stress that brand recognition with the integration of that logo into your own company logo (as an operator)... and ask legally GB and Tiffen that they couldn't have reason to denie it to you. You are a customer and you are advertising there logo for free...

I can see that if you don't own a genuine CP/Tiffen Steadicam, they could have issues with granting you the permission, but then again why would you want to use there logo anyways... right?

But talk to GB and Tiffen.

Erwin
