Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted June 7, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 For those who thought it couldn't be done here is an EFP flying an ARRI 435! The camera tipped the scales at 55 pounds that means the rig is about 63 pounds! The arm is only supposed to handle 38 pounds (red springs) but the 435 flew comfortably. Hang on a second. what scale did you weigh this with? A 435 with Steadimags doesn't weigh 55lbs that would be heavier than the Panavised F900 that I fly everyday. And how does an EFP weigh 8 lbs???? you have almost 7lbs of battery alone on the sled. A 435 in Steadicam mode is a 20-24lbs camera and iirc the EFP is a 14lbs rig less battery. My guess is that you have 40-45lbs of rig which would explain why a 38lbs arm could fly it
Premium Members Elliott Yancey Posted June 7, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 Honestly Eric you might be right. When the camera came out to be 55 pounds on the scale at the rental shop, I questioned if we were weighing lbs. or kg. The tech said it was pounds, but I was a bit skeptical. I also just guessed at the weight of the EFP. I guessed low trying not to look like an arrogant jerk. (Ooo look at me, I'm flying the most weight ever flown on a EFP. Ooo I'm awesome. Bow to me.) I don't ever want to be that guy. So at any rate, you are probably right. The bottom line is that the 435 flies great on my EFP and should be a lot of fun. :P Elliott "confused by this whole metric system thing" Yancey
Premium Members Frederic Chamberland Posted June 7, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 And when Canadians like me are raised with both systems (metric and imperial) I can assure you those were probably pounds because 55kg would make around 120lbs... (1kg=2.2lbs) Fly light.
Premium Members Elliott Yancey Posted June 7, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 You're right. I'm a moron! I did the math backwards! So what I was really saying is I have no idea how much this thing weighs, I just know it works. Man, I really am a newbi! I will try to better next time. Premium Members Gus Trivino Posted June 7, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 Hi Elliot I´m owner of an EFP Model too, and use it with heavies cameras than a EFP can carry on, is for my opinion the best way to breack something (gimbal-arm or vest) Take care. What about the drop time? I think the Magazine were empty and this will complicate more to arrive to your balance when the Mag is full. Try to use the accesories (Video Sender or a recorder onboard) in the lower sled, that can help you... Best to all, Gus.
