Is there anybody who can tell me the differences between the follow focus systems. I would like to hear wich frequency the are and how much output power the have.

 

My current system is on 434 mhz, so are every car key and security intercom system. Very handy. And its only 10 milliwatt.

I use the Bartech, and I believe it's set in the 902-928Mhz range. Why ?

I do a lot of concerts and the assistent sits behind a monitor. Its impossible to walk with me and the stages are getting bigger each time. So the distance is an issue and the range too. Every porto uses the 400mhz band. Also the ticket ports, radio mics, light dimmers , car keys, etce etc is using between the 400 and 800 mhz band. So my system works for about 50 cm and then its gone. Thats why i am in the market for something better. Meaning, higher band and hopefully a bit stronger than 10 milliwatts

Yes, i did figure that out. But every wifi transmitter is on that 2.4 so i am a little affraid on that too. Production use a lot of that during concerts. And the wireless camera is on 5.something, but the cameracontrol is on 2.4. Makes it even harder.

 

@ David,

Yes this is an exoensive hobby, but the best hobby there is. Everything ok with you? The Bartech could work, i only need to know what the output power is. I hope its more than 10 milliwatts. Jim?

Actually, in order to be FCC part 15 compliant, the BFD is 1 to 2 milliwatts (0 to +3 dBm). This translates to about 300 ft (100 m) line of sight range, and will punch completely through my house (3 walls). Please note that range is inversely proportional to frequency, so the higher the frequency the shorter the range for a given power output. Thus, 10 mW at 2.5 GHz doesn't give 10 times the range of 1 mW at 900 MHz.

 

It's funny to note that when I started everyone was going to 2.5 Mhz to get away from the "overcrowding" on the 900 MHz band. Now that everyone has left, I've got the 900 MHz band almost to myself. Garret told me he had trouble doing a shoot in Paris because everything was on 2.5 GHz and his Preston was getting jammed.

 

Erwin, have to ever tested the 1 km LOS range? While I have nothing but the utmost respect for Howard's engineering skills, that seems a little long for something using 2 inch antennae.

Well, there is my problem. I am on 434mhz, with 10 milliwatts. So are other devices with much higher output power. Meaning, my handfollow signal is pushed away by those other devices. So, 900 mhz, wich is higer, 1 milliwatt is almost nothing. I am sure that works fantastic, as many people say. But, with so much signals in the air during concerts that will give me the same problems i guess.

Still not sure wich route to go.

 

Erwin, did you ask Howard from preston already?

My best bet would be 900 mhz, or perhaps the 800 from crosziel, but i am just to afraid that 1 milliwat wont do the trick, call me stupid, but there are so many wireless signals, powerful one's, during big events. Anybody?
