They suggest drilling small holes in the case for mounting (they have partially drilled holes for this already), but I'm a bit unclear as to how and where best to mount once these holes are drilled. Prefer not to drill into the unit at all, but will if that's the best way. In case it makes a difference, I have a PRO sled. Thanks. Permenantly apply the hooks to your accessory, and have a permenant patch of the soft stuff / loops on your sled somewhere, then you can add things like video transmitter, digital level, downconverter, whatever box of tricks you need for the job in hand, just slap it on, make the cables neat and away you go. I was a little concerned about the velcro giving play and throwing the level off but perhaps it wouldn't happen or be so insignificant as to make a difference. Thoughts on this? There's your standard velcro and then I've seen this 3M stuff that is similar to having hooks on both side. Anybody know what that stuff's called and if you think it's a better solution? Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted July 23, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted July 23, 2007 Dan, My XCS level comes with the pass-through holes to mount it to the bottom of a sled by the center post, but my Jerry-Rig battery base does not permit drilling holes because of the way the housing is fitted together. I was worried that Velcro would not be good in this case, but it has never been a problem. I just use the industrial strength flavor and have an entire side of the level covered. It is mated to an equal sized piece on the sled by the center post. Because the level's entire surface area is covered and attached to another surface, there seems to be no issues. I routinely check against a bubble level on the top stage. Oh, I should add that I never remove it. If I were to, I'd re-zero it after putting it back. I was gonna earlier, but I didn't want to be the "Big Idiot" who velcros my bubble level to the sled. I do by the way, and it works great. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted July 24, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 24, 2007 I've had mine velcroed to the side of my prototype Battery Hanger for the past year and have had issues. It should be noted that the design of the battery hanger is such that it doesn't have a solid wall, so the surface area that can mate to the level is probably less than 25%. As a result, there is a possibility of the level shifting away from the side wall, which of course will wreak havoc on the bubble. I should say that I do not have it with the industrial plastic velcro stuff and have meant to get some (ran out a couple years ago) so that's my own fault. And Hugo is making me up a version of the side wall that has the standard PRO/XCS mounting screws, which incidentally will be available on request with the production version of the Hanger. Dan I think it's called "dual lock" and radio shack has it in small bits, pacific radio has it in large rolls, great stuff.
