Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted June 13, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 13, 2004 So, the picture is kinda dark, looks like Anthony behind Eric, and it's too dark to see whose behind Kenji. And who is the guy next to David? Have never seen him before?

Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted June 14, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2004 Ahh, It was awesome to see you guys again. At Cinegear a French Cinematographer friend of mine invited me to go hang out with him at the Beach BBQ at the ASC clubhouse with a bunch of the ASC guys. I figured it was going to be cool, but decided to hang out with other fellow steadi ops. you guys rock! Thanks for always making me feel welcomed. My trips out here are always great. Ruben Sluijter
So, the picture is kinda dark, looks like Anthony behind Eric, and it's too dark to see whose behind Kenji. And who is the guy next to David? Have never seen him before? Uhm, that would probably be me. I apologise for any mental trouble my likeness may have caused you or your loved ones as I have been frequently reminded that I have a great face for radio. I will do whatever is needed to make amends, just please don;t sue me! Peace, Ruben "Forever next to David" Sluijter
Premium Members ChadPersons Posted June 29, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 29, 2004 An informal gathering sounds like a great idea. Since shows, obviously, have only one steadicam op we never really get the chance to meet each other. I look forward to meeting you guys. See you there, Chad Persons
Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted June 29, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 29, 2004 Chad, Maybe you misread the date, but this is an old post. We've been doing gatherings now for about 4 years. Denis Moran brought it up once and we had 25+ operators show. Since then we've had them from time to time, usually about 5 times a year. David Allen Grove, since then started the "Steadicam Guild" and he usually tries to organize the meetings. The meeting in this post was not one of them though. Keep your ears open or check David's website from time to time for the dates of the next one (probably in early August I'd imagine, since we just had one after Cinegear). Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted June 29, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 29, 2004 Chad, The Guild grew out of an email conversation Dan Kneece and I had. During this conversation Dan suggested that we form some sort of Steadicam club or guild. We bounced ideas back and forth. Setting minimum requirements for membership, what we thought the guild should be about and how it can benefit the membersihp. Above everything else we want to keep it fun, educational and we want to promote the use and art of Steadicam. I always tell people that this is THEIR guild and if anyone wants to organize an event, let me, Dan or Denis know and we'll do it. I try to organize a "Gathering" (I say gathering because meetings sound too formal and our get togethers are rarely formal) at least once a month because not everybody can make it to every meeting. I think there was a stretch we didn't meet for 2 or three months in a row. (my bad) This month we've had 3 guild events and 1 informal gathering! Cinegear/Dalts gathering, Screening of Baadaassss! and the Feldenkrais Class. We also have an assistant steadicam workshop in the works and we'll be meeting with the Digital Cinema Society in the near future to discuss issues facing steadicam operators as they shoot with HD cameras. Issues? what issues.. LOL. I think the Guild is just on the edge of making an impact and I've learned SO much just by hanging out with other steadicam operators. It's a great support system and I've made so many friends. Again, welcome to the Steadicam Guild, Chad. As always, those of you who are not a member of the guild and would like to apply please goto the Steadicam Guildweb site and apply. There is an application form that you can copy and paste in your email. Membership is free for those who qualify. Those who are already members who haven't been getting our email announcements, you should send an email to admin@steadicamguild.net we'll put you on our mailing list. So far everyone that has sent in an application has had the qualifications for membership and has been accepted into the guild. Please send the guild an email so I can automatically put your email int the mailing list. Thanks!
