Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted September 17, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2007 I got a quote of anywhere between $1000 to $4500 to try to recover them, but most likely the upper end if at all, and I can't really justify it for the garbled mess that will come back to me. FWIW, I've used a company ESS Data Recovery in the past with relatively minor cost <$600.00. Most of the companies out there sort of bait and switch you depending on how desperate you are. ESS is very reputable. http://www.essdatarecovery.com/ Also, I have a USB drive assembly that you just plug in the raw drive to (it takes multiple size drives). It will sometimes spin up a drive that the computer will not spin up. If anyone ever needs it you are welcome to use it; it's a simple device. Charles, let me know and I'll send it to you; it's worth a try. The next step if you can get it to spin up is Disk Warrior which will repair most drive errors if you can get the platters to spin. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted September 17, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2007 Both hard drives "clicking", which is a sign of death as I understand it. I'll try ESS for a quote anyway, thanks Robert.
