Hi!.

I´m looking for a zoom control like J-7 (Cinema Prod.) or similar for Cannon lens. I´ve the wireless Aladin (Focus, iris and zoom control), but I need one that I can use from my sled.

but did you try the stanton jimmy jib web site

they make a zoom and focus control for the steadicam rigs

they are actually very nice

and they will do both the canon and fujinon lenses

also has a record button on the zoom/focus handle

and it has a directional swith for the zoom "in and out" features

Bebob Engineering makes the "Zoe" zoom control. The new model is auto sensing for Canon, Fuji, and Angenieux lenses. No more buying adapter cables specifically for your model Zoe and different lenses, it's a very nice system. And for mounting, I believe Jeff Muhlstock has done the best modification I've seen. J-7?s are out dated and are no longer available. Next time search the forum and you?ll probably find what you?re looking for.

Hey Chris! How's it going? Thanks for posting Jeff's mount photo. I bought the new auto sensing ZOE almost five months ago and like it but have swayed away from using it much because of mounting issues; the handle/grip on my gimble is tappered so it's tough to get the ZOE to stay put without tape. Jeff's use of a microphone mount (I think that is what it is?) is a perfect idea and the location audio house will surely have something tappered for handheld mics that will work for tappered gimble handles. Thanks again for a very helpful posting and photo and thanks to Jeff as well for the idea.

Note that the Varizoom is Canon only while the Libec is switchable. I own both units and think the cheaper Libec is the better quality unit.

I use both Libec controllers. 1 for DV, the other for Canon/Fujinon lenses.

They work nice and fine but are a little bit bigger then the ZOE.

I have the controllers mounted on the gimbal but up side down. That way you have a bit more space to get a good 'grip'

So Tele/Wide is in mirror. It is a little odd, but do work for me.

Tnaks Erik. I´ll think about it. Remember, my gear is an Ultra2 and at the gimbal I´ve the remote Fore/aft-sidet to side remote control, but I can remove it....

As well as mounting options for the various designs and models, also take note of how they work in combination with the newer style digital broadcast / HD lenses. Some controllers seem to uncontrollably drift or creep, no matter how much tinkering you do with the potentiometer. My Zoe has performed well to date (having modified the cable, and worked out a good way of mounting it on my Master). The other week we used the Varizoom with a nice HD digital Canon lens, and it performed well with no drifting issues (except towards the end of the day, but by this point we were soaking wet, and the water probably had more to do with things more than anything else)

Well everyone that is having this problem with drifting lenses, I have had extensive conversations with Canon regarding the drifting, Fuji doesn't seem to have this problem, and Just last week they called me telling me they may have a reason and a solution, one that I can't post yet but if it is indeed the problem that they are diagnosing then all of you will be the first to hear about it once I become the tester for the solution.

Overhere in the Netherlands, we had also a talk with Canon. That resulted in sending 10 new style lenses back in to canon. It has something to do with the zoom voltage. For example, it should be 5 volts, but some of them are 4.8 or 5.2. ( thats not the preciese voltage, i didnt remember the right one )

 

Now all the 10 lenses work just fine with the Bebob. I think the found the reason. Now i am gonna ask Bebob if the can build something less accurate, becose sending back all lenses in the world sounds difficult to me.

New Inqiries were made thanks to the reminder from you, and I have asked my tech manager and canon to address the forum post directly for a better explanation as to why the drift is occuring.
