HU3 Camera Run button issue

Hi guys. Has anybody had problems with the Preston HU3 Camera Run button?

Several AC's have had a tough time with the button actually clicking when pressed but not engaging.

It's cost me several times.

It's seems that you have to press with authority to actuate the switch. A light touch will give you a click but not roll the camera. Yes there is a "Run" light but we all know how frenetic situations can be and the AC's are just as human as we are.

It's gotten past me while shooting HD. I can see that we're not rolling with film.

I've spoken to Dan at Preston about retrofitting the hand unit with a new switch.

I looked into this more today, both with my older HU-3 unit and a brand new one I picked up yesterday. The software versions were v1.12 and v1.11 respectively.

It does appear that (with both units) you can press a number of the tactile buttons and feel a click without the button performing the function. This happens if you press the buttons quickly or lightly. As far as the run button is concerned, I could press it a number of times before running the camera, however, the run light would only light on those occasions the camera actually ran.

I will speak to Howard about this and post an update.

Howard has responded very quickly to this issue. I have to applaud his customer service - yet again.

He feels that this problem with some of the tactile switches is most likely due to contamination during the process of cleaning the circuit boards when they are manufactured.

He says that anyone experiencing such a problem should contact Preston to get it resolved.
