I am in need of an 11lb weight plate for my MK-v lite sled. This whole weight plate thing is very confusing to me. I tried getting a machine shop to make me one but the holes werent lining up and I couldnt get a long enough camera screw. Its too late now, I need one for Oct 15. Anyone got one they can ship me for rental or purchase? Thanks.

How do you know the holes will match up? DO you have an mk-v lite plate? Also, do you have long screws with the flat top?

Hey Brian, how's in going? I've got a Mike O'Shea version 11 lb plate and will be working in LA starting the 13th or 15th. Either way the latest I'd be over from Las Vegas is the night of the 14th so I can bring it or if you want it sooner I can ship it. Either way, you're welcome to use it. If production will pay rental on it fine, if it's just to make your life easier no-charge. Not sure if it works on a MK-v lite sled or not but there a ton of holes in this thing. I could make a copy of it on the copier and fax it to you with some basic measurements. Just call my cell.

Hi Brian, unless MK-V makes a completely different plate then the original, the holes should fit!

I can't imagine they would make a completely different version, they always used the original dimensions, as far as I know.

Now the long screws, they are more difficult. They can be made to order here, but how long is long? 1" long?

With my plate you need standard 1/4" screws that you normally use for (photo-)cameras while the weight-plate/cage itself is mounted with normal 3/8" screws, it allows you to mount underslung too. with the second plate on top. Then the total weight is approx. 8,5 kgs.

There are a few of my cages in L.A.

Anyway, with special requests, it will not be there in time for this shoot, then.

Hello Robert,

If you're making photocopies of your Mike O'shea plate could I piggyback off of that? I think my machinist could probably whip something up with a jpg off of Mike's site, but the photocopy would really give him something to go by.

Hey Dave, well... PLEASE PLEASE let me clarify here; I was just offering to fax a photo copy to Brian to see if the hole pattern would work for him (I ended up loaning him my plate anyway and it worked). I wasn't offering the copy for the intent of reproducing Mike's plate at all and I pray that it didn't come across that way because that was not my intention. I'm sure Mike went to some initial expense, time and effort to make his design and he totally bent over backwards to ship me one overnight when I needed it during a day when he was prepping to leave town for another job. He's a good man and a working stiff just like the rest of us and gives a lot more than he takes from the profession.

If you need a plate I'd recommend you purchase one from Mike or one of the other guys here (Rob) who have done the homework for us. The things are about the least expensive AK you can buy and if you compared it to the $150 2 oz cables we buy, by the pound it's definitely a deal! If you're in a jam and need one, call me and we'll discuss a rental or even a loaner; just not for the purpose of copying it.

All the best!

No Robert! My bad! I look at my post now and am a little embarrassed! I didn't mean any disrespect to Mike. I had heard that the plates were no longer being manufactured. I'll check with him and would be glad to purchase one at retail plus $5 because they look so cool. I apologize for any misunderstanding and in no way did I seek to diminish a man's R and D.
