Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted November 5, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 The strike is on. Are you guys affected? Is your show shooting? Jens
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted November 5, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 I am not feeling it yet but if the strike lasts very long I am sure that I will. Most of the stuff I work on won't be directly effected but if the strike lasts for very long the more experienced guys who are losing jobs because of it will start taking jobs that I would otherwise be getting. Chances are the strike will be over before it really has a chance to effect me. No hard feelings even if it has an effect. Sometimes the unions need to take a stand. ~Jess
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted November 5, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 Talked to a friend of mine today. His production shut down today and they are wrapping the Camera package to go back to the rental house tomorrow... My neighbor works on Nip/Tuck and they are on a day to day schedule with a shut down in sight. At the same time I lost a couple of non union jobs that union guys where giving to me as they where busy... now they will have to do'em. So it is already screwing with me... I guess I will have a long Thanksgiving vacation, oh well.
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted November 6, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 I'm on a feature that has 2 weeks left. As it's already in production, I guess it's not effected? I'm also booked to start another feature just after Thanksgiving. As of yesterday, everything is still set to go. I was made to understand that once the show has started pre-production and the script has obviously been approved, the writers strike doesn't effect the job??? My series 'Burn Notice' is supposed to start in January. I'm guessing that if the strike is still going on then it might mess with my start date??? The writer is also the executive producer (I wonder if that makes any difference?). The writers have to make mortgage payments and car payments and private school payments just like we do. While I understand they want changes to their contract, I would also imagine they want to get to work just as much as everybody else does. I'd be curious to know some actual facts about the 'rules' for a strike like this (something other than my random speculations). mm.

Show runners are not allowed to write or even edit shows that are in the can, because that includes trimming of the written word. Sorry MY show (SCRUBS) will finish out the week then we are screwed. I heard from other friends today that The Office, Desperate Housewives, Private Practice, Heroes and a number of others have already ceased production. Bummer. Hoping this all ends soon. This sucks. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted November 6, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 This is certainly one of the reasons my show "Canterbury's Law" wrapped early (our star is also six months pregnant). And we have never even aired yet!!! Oh well.

Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted November 6, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 Same with Nip/tuck... Thanks Giving. CSI pushed/postponed for a week. First time in 7 seasons.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted November 6, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 Heroes is on the lot next to us and are supposedly going down at the end of this week. Grey's and Earl are supposed to stop shooting next week as well. My show is good until the 1st (keeping fingers crossed that this is true). ...and the story about the guy who was run down and suffered a broken leg has been greatly exaggerated -- it was here at Sunset Gower and his foot was run over because the numbskull stuck it out infront of a moving car. It's amazing the spin our media puts on everything. rb
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted November 7, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 7, 2007 Talked to a friend on Cain and he said they were shut down on location because the picketers were making too much noise with maga-phones/yelling. They are finishing the current episode then? Hope all this non-sense is overwith quick so people can feed their families. rb
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted November 9, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 9, 2007 In my travels around town by the various studios this week it looked a bit like the picket lines were filled or padded 80% with students / intern types. Did it appear this way to anyone else; it's hard to tell from the car while driving, texting and eating lunch  I see this going on here in Las Vegas with the local construction trade unions where they hire basic day laborers to picket businesses with signs that say "Shame on XYZ". Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted November 10, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2007 Where do I sign up? While I doubt the pay is very good they already know how to picket so we should be able to take care of that in no time. ~Jess
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted November 10, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2007 from the sound of some of their chants, maybe they should get a job at Starbucks instead of writing tv/movies: "who has more money than they can count...Paramount!" and "we write, you wrong" were two I heard yesterday. come on people! Heroes shut down today. rb
Premium Members Daniel Stilling DFF Posted November 10, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2007 As heard on the set of Desperate Housewifes: "we write the storia for Eva Langoria" I don't know about Starbucks... They would have to learn those really complicated coffee names, that takes skill... Daniel
Matt Gibbs
the network i work for has a show about heroes. once new episodes of heroes dries up in december our show will have to stop as well. i'm one of the lucky ones because i work on other shows for the network but i have friends who will most likely be out of a job if this strike isn't resolved soon. i didn't know how many people this strike effected until it happened. i really hope they come to a conclusion soon cause i don't want my friends to lose their jobs.
