Good point.

One thing that nobody mentions is the double residuals many/most writers get because they are writer/producers. Every show I've been on there's so many "producers" it's confusing.

Last week we had an actress on our show who showed up wearing a wga strike shirt. We likened her wearing that shirt around us circus carnies to someone wearing a kkk shirt to south-central. No one would stand next to her fearing falling equipment.

LOL

That's funny that she was treated like she had Ebola. Good for the crew though, I would of done the same.

I think the writers better be prepared to have that feeling for a long time after the strike is over too.

And you bring up a good point....these shows are all written by 6,7,8 writers actually, with a revolving "Written by" credit to one of them.

That "lead" writer for that episode almost ALWAYS now gets a "producer" credit too (funny how that works) and therefore gets residuals already for that episode.

That used to NOT be that way 8-10 years ago.

That came about when the writers demanded to be on set more often and have their names next to the directors when the credits read, "a film by...."

They got around that (getting to be on set) by becoming a "producer" (laughable since they aren't doing any producing).

It's been funny listening to Jay Leno in the last few days though, he's taking jabs at the writers left and write, oops I mean right.

Loved it when he said, "it hasn't been so laid back and fun around here ever, well once the writers strike is settled we'll have to go back to our uptight selves" (or something along those lines).

As to the OP original question.

I was affected because the show I was suppose to start in mid October got held off.

So I had to spend the rest of October, November and the first few days of December dayplaying. Which was okay because I got like 12 or 13 days in those 7 weeks (mid October to December 4th). Not too bad considering the strike.

I'm planning another week in Canada up with Mike Weigle Heli skiing, maybe in Feb. if any of you skiiers or borders want to come along I'll have info soon.

Strike . . . what strike . . . .keep the steadicam legs in shape and go breath some fresh mountain air!

All the best to you guys that are getting hit the hardest from this strike, hopefully it will all be over soon.

Happy New Year to all !

I have to chime in here. I took 3 weeks off to go to Colombia and Ecuador and meet fellow Steadicam op Mathieu Mouraud. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to connect in person but it was a great time regardless. I figured what with the holidays and the strike, I may as well spend the money I'm not making.
