New anamorphic zoom

During the last week, we?ve been using a prototype lens here in Vancouver, where I serve as the A-camera/Steadicam operator on a show.

A ?wide-angle anamorphic zoom?, 40-80mm, T2.8 and minimum focus at 3,3.

We affectionately call it the ?Bailey lens? after John Bailey A.S.C. who requested this lens a few months before the show started.

What is really great about it is that it?s no longer or heavier than the 100mm anamorphic Primo, and we?re shooting most of the movie with it, hiding focal length changes within pans.

Occasionally, we switch to C-series for running stuff, or up and down stairs, but the Primos and the ?Bailey lens? are our main lenses.

I?ll post some photos soon.

Best to all,

Michael Tsimperopoulos

The ?Bailey lens? is a new lens from Panavision, developed after a request from John Bailey A.S.C.

I just got back from dailies. Day and night interiors, most of them wide open at 2.8

The quality was simply phenomenal. We couldn?t tell prime from zoom. (There was some talk of sending back the 40,50 and 75mm Primos that we carry.)

Michael.
