Premium Members Joshua Harrison Posted November 12, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 12, 2007 It is with great sadness I bring the news of Chip Monk's death today in a fatal car accident. Chip was a great friend and an awesome person. Those of you who had the good fortune of knowing him, know how awesome he was. He will be missed by us and please send your prayers and thoughts to his wife Sara and his family. As I get more info on where to send condolences and where the service will be I will post it up. I am just devastated right now...words do not describe this pain. Joshua Harrison

Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted November 12, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 12, 2007 Chip was the first person to ever offer to loan me gear and help me when I was just starting out, and he did it with a smile and words of encouragement. He was just a really great guy with a good heart. He will be missed by many. My heart goes out to his family.

Jenifer @ Walter Klassen FX
I and my crew are deeply saddened and wish to extend our condolences to his friends and family. I very recently got to know him through several long phone conversations in regards to his new harness. It is sad to think of how fast a vibrant life can end. Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted November 13, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 I've also worked with Chip and thought, like everybody else, that he was a great guy. I know if this happened to me, my dearest wish would be that my family was taken care of. While my friends and family would want whats best for my wife, I'm not too sure any of them would be able to figure out exactly where and how much to sell my steadicam for (probably one of Chip's largest assets). It would seem that with all of the steadicam related resources here on this site, we might be able to get Chip's wife top dollar for his rig. Is there anything like that we could do to help? mm. Moderators Janice Arthur Posted November 14, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted November 14, 2007 Hi all; I did not know Chip but it is hard to hear about a life gone. Why not direct the family to Derrick Whitehouse to appraise and sell his gear when the time comes. Derrick knows the values and can act as a "seller" taking the responsibility away from the family. I wish all who knew him solice in this horrible time. JA
Rob Whitehurst
Hello everyone, My name is Rob Whitehurst. I am a production sound mixer in central Florida. And I was one of Chip's friends. I knew him for over 10 years. We lost Chip Sunday in a single car accident on I-75 near Gainesville. We were all working of a movie in Albany, Georgia called Fireproof, being produced by the same folks who did Facing The Giants, which Chip also did some second unit work on. After a weekend home with family, everyone was on their way back to Albany for a hard day of shooting on Monday, with a train and a double car crash scene, in which Chip and his steadicam figured into greatly. Chip's car suffered a rear tire blow out which sent him into a multiple flip. What we didn't know at the time was that even though he was wearing his seatbelt, the car came down right on top of the driver's side and he died at the scene. The co-producer came upon the scene, saw it was Chip's car and went to the hospital. It was a long night for everyone until we finally found out he had passed away. Today was the funeral and it was very fitting of Chip. Over 100 members of the Florida film and television production community attended on top of all of Chip's other friends and family. It's been a very hard week and we all miss Chip terribly. I put it this way in an email I just sent out to a production list, I thanked Chip for being an inspiration and for living the near perfect life. You will meet few men of his kind in life and I just hate that one of the really good guys has been taken from this world that so desperately needs his influence. Several have asked how they can help. Chip had no life insurance policy and his wife does not work (she was in school). She is also six months pregnant so the need is great and will be for some time. We've set up a fund for her through PayPal and we have a website with a donate button on it. This is my first post here so I'm not sure if this board will pass through the URL or not so I'll try several times to make at least one work: Day Rate For Chip Our suggestion is to give what you can, but to also dedicate a day's job to Chip and his wife, working a job and then giving that day's wages to the fund. She get's 100% of the money's donated, minus a very small fee that PayPal collects for the service, and it goes directly into her bank account (we are leaving her name off of blogs for security reasons right now). I also have a blog at Tv.com where I go into a little more detail if you'd like to read that: Sounddude's Profile at TV.com If you need any other information, please feel free to contact me. We have indeed lost one of the kindest, gentlest, and funniest men I've ever had the pleasure to know. And I know the tears are far from stopping their flow. Thank you for the time, Rob W. Christopher TJ McGuire SOC
I had the fortune to meet and work with Chip on a visit to Florida for a MTV cribs a few years ago. He was extremely helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. This is a tragic loss. Heres to you Chip - I'm glad I met you! Chris McGuire. Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted November 17, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 17, 2007 Shocked to read this awful news. I've not met Chip personally, but had been talking to him recently over the last year or so, and have also bought some bits of kit from him. His warmth and friendliness came across so well to someone who hadn't even had the fortune to meet him. I'm sure all our thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.
