High speed 435:HELP!

Hey all!

 

I'm doing a job next weekend with the 435. We'll be doing a lot of high speed shots and rumor has it that good ol' hytron 50s won't run the camera. This is my first time working with this camera on the steadi, and I want to be prepared for everything. Can someone tell me exactly what kind of batteries I need to purchase in order to get this camera running at high speed? Or are they someting I can rent/ get production to rent? Thanks so much!!

Nicad batteries are the thing to run that camera at high speed. AB Proformer, Trimpacs, etc. Search the archives here for more info.

I believe you need to mix up the Battery types.

 

Use a Pro Pack with a Hytron 50 or something like this.

 

Go to the checkout and test it!! I could be wrong.

 

I know the Steadicam power cubes run the 435 at hi speed but I do not if they are for rent anywhere.

I just used this camera for the 1st time on a shoot. I think it flys better then ENG video cameras.

My PowerCubes and even E10's run it high speed with no problem at all.

No Hytrons will not run a 435. Dionics maybe but you want NiCads. You have to sink ALOT of current to turn over the 435 pig.

Last year I have a chance to work with DPH Rassel Carpenter and he asked me to run ARRI 435 at 150f/s on my steadicam . I am working with HITRONs50. The attempt was successful , but I need to change batteries after every five 20-seconds takes. And at 50f/s it worked as at 25.

One my friend use a 2 meters power camera cable and camera battery on his back to work with ARRI 435 .

Thats why i choose ni-mh Batterys and no li-on when i built my package (also li_on batt can fire or explose ,difficult but its a posibility !)

but if you like lithioum you can recell with li-po but be carreful this batt have a lot possibilities to explose specialy after a short circuit,or a knock !!!

I've done literally dozens of jobs with 435's at high speed with 3 hytron 50's. I've heard that when Hytron 50's get old they don't hold up that well but the set I'm using now is over one year old with hundreds of thousands of feet of film on them (in 2007 I did: 4 feature films, one 12 episode TV series and a dozen commercials) and I just shot today with a 435 at high speed with no problem.

 

If you are concerned, bring a back pack. You can always throw a belt or small block battery in and power the camera like you would in studio mode.
