Ciao from Italy,

I'm interested in opinions on mk-v lite and mk-v workshops (and also prices), any first hand experience?

staying on a low budget what you'll chose between Steadicam Flyer, Satchler Artemis DV pro (fx or MD), Mk-v lite, Glidecam V25? (if I had the money i'll like to fly a ultracine or nexus even for a dv camera but not enough money)

Is the Mk-v lite the only one upgradable between this pool?

Ciao again from Torino and please forgive my poor english

I would do a workshop first, try out every brand there is, read this forum, ask questions and then make your decision. In short, the Flyer is a fantastic rig, but has its limits. You cant fly the big camera's on it, but if you only fly DV and some other video your fine. Glidecam is an affordable video rig. I hear some bearing problems but it das what its made for.

Mk-v lite is a very nice sled. In the future you can upgrade it to end up with the nexus, if thats what you wish.

There are many many rigs out there, for every one's taste. thats why its better to fly a bunch of them before buying. To many choices. I do have a bit off all, Nexus sled, steadicam arm, klassen vest, transvideo lcd, etc etc. Meaning you can mix, match and buy the stuff you like/can afford.

good luck

Hi Gabriele, i had the chance to fly the mk-v lite when i was @mk-v to take a workshop, and owning also a flyer i can tell you that there's a huge difference in performance between the two, that's my opinion of course, but remember also that you're comparing two sleds that aren't in the same price range, and this is reflected of course in technical choices and quality of materials that are used to build the rig.

As Job said, the Lite is fully upgradable and is a modular concept, the flyer born and die as it is; A great combination? Fly the Lite on the Flyer arm, just sweeeet.

Mk-v workshop? Simply fantastic, don't miss it; better, take it before to choose a rig, it will give you the basic knowledge to choose the best for your needs. Prices, ask directely @mk-v, no better source.

Hope it helps

I would imagine the MK-V lite sled alone would cost around the same as a full v25 or flyer package. So if you add on the cost of a flyer arm + stand + vest + batteries/charger + monitor etc it's going to be expensive !

From what I know Tiffen and MK-V do workshops in the UK and Glidecam and Tiffen do workshops in the rest of europe but i'm not sure what countries. A quick email to the various companies would help you find out.

Yup, Matt is right about costs, but anyway you can take a look by yourself at mk-v.com, there you'll find the full pricelist in detail, piece by piece, also as Matt suggest, send e mails directely to find out costs and dates for workshops in Euope. I can only suggest, when you choose for a workshop, look for the best instructor, not for a brand (you can check the IMDB to better understand what i mean). The Mk-v is fully modular, but keep in mind that V-25 or Artemis are not, so difficult to upgrade one with the other. Mk-v is intended to be compatible with many parts of other Pro brands (Tiffen, PRO, and some others, but defenetly no glidecam or artemis, which find their place in a lower market). The meaning of a fully upgreadable system it means that you buy a sled today to fly a mini dv in a cage and later on keeping most of the same parts you'll be able to fly a 35mm camera with all bells and whistles.

Hope it helps

Fabrizio
