Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 22, 2007 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2007 Even removed my jeans once for sound to stop the swish as I walked but I wouldn?t make a habit of either. Well good. While I like operating barefoot I wouldn't want to start a nudist steadicam operator movement or anything ;-) ~Jess
Premium Members Dave Isern Posted December 23, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 23, 2007 I've done the shoeless thing a few times over the years. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. However, usually when people ask me if doing steadicam -hurts my back- I reply: "No, but my feet sometimes ache after numerous long days." Barefoot does tend to speed up foot endurance as one might expect. Barefoot operating does make you feel very ninja-like though. :) Cheers, Dave Isern www.daveisern.com
Kevin M. Andersen
I've found these surfer booties to be worth their weight in gold. I learned my lesson in barefoot operating with a piece of glass underwater. In deep sand I find it less fatiguing on the calf muscles and sometimes it is nice to feel the texture of the surface underfoot. Marc_Mueller
Try out the Box Hog from Adidas. They are not as high as my normal boxing boots, black light and very quiet by walking. It´s nearly bare foot feel with in my opinion the same safty then any other sport shoes excapt ski boots :P . If you are use to walk barefoot you´ll love it. In Europe you get them for about 30-40?. The longer you wear them the better they get. Marc
Premium Members nealnorton Posted February 7, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 7, 2008 Working barefoot is a really bad idea. Just a foolish risk that has no upside. Neal Norton
George Grammatikos
the true is that when you are operating barefoot you feel your foot like a sensor for the ground .Also you have very smooth and linear starts, and stops but it is dandgerus .you can use soft and thin shoes so you have the barefoot benefit and you will be safe but on the other hand after some hours of work this shoes doesnt help a lot ,your foot will complain Fly safe!!! Premium Members Chuck Moran Posted February 22, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2008 Chris Fawcett has some great insights into going barefoot in his very interesting Posture article. http://steadivision.com/steadipos2.pdf There's a lot to be said for being bare of foot, but as Chris concludes in the foot section of the article: "We evolved to walk barefoot on savannah, not concrete, so shoes are a modern necessity." The article is worth a read if you haven't already done so. Chuck Moran
Premium Members Bryan Trieb Posted June 8, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 8, 2008 Today I was shooting a doc in a Hindu Temple where no one is allowed to wear shoes. I've never op'd barefoot before and was not crazy about the idea at all. I decided to give it a shot, since if I refused, they'd not have the money shots they wanted.....and I was working with/for "friends". At first, the cool marble under my feet felt real nice, and then about 30 seconds later I missed my Merrell's more than an addict misses their fix. First time I've been sore after a shoot day in a long time. No shoes + Steadicam = Bad Idea
Premium Members Henry Gelhart Posted June 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 Hi, if you don't want to operate barefoot but want to keep the original "barefoot feeling" you have to try the Converse All Stars (or Chucks). I often wear them while operating. They are not really expecive and they have a slim sole so you can perfectly feel the ground. Try them! ;) (But I would not use them in a forest or at the beach) Henry
