transvideo transmitters-Help

these transmitters are sold at B&H out of New York so feel free to look them up , but my question is has anybody used either one of these units? Can you tell me anything about them? what kind of quality are they? i want them mainly for Video assist to go wireless. Trying to lose the cables for ever. Any help would be great as i ned to make a purchase rather quickly.

I have the Transvideo Titan and really like it. I use it whenever I can, though most often I end up using my Canatrans because multiple departments want to see the feed - that´s the problem with the Titan. You need a separate custom receiver for each monitor.

 

But the picture is solid and works a good, long distance. When it does suffer interference, it comes in the form of horizontal hits across the picture, but the picture stays fixed as opposed to broadcast interference that can get wavy and snowy.

I have the Titan on the current film im working on and it isnt really working at all. I'm operating Video Assist and we have found that in the right environment and with line of sight it works fine, but go anywhere near any metal, or in the bush the signal just turns to crap and becomes unusable for the director. Alot of the time I have an assistant running behind the operator with the reciever about 6ft away and even then the picture can be horrible. We've even ended up running cables sometimes which has annoyed the operator, but we've got through it.

 

I personally own a Modulas 3000 and have never really had a problem with it anywhere, and im confident that the Moduals would work well in the environment which has killed the Titans. Friends on other films here in Melbourne recently have also been complaining about the Titans latley.

I've used it in a small crowd and I've also used it half a block away with the receiver just around the corner behind a wall. Didn't see the picture myself as I was operating, but the guys at the monitor said it was fine. I imagine there was some break up but they were able to see it well enough that it served its purpose.

 

What really screws with it are cord-free land line phones. Can't remember the frequency that messes with it, but ironic that if you test these units at Transvideo's office, you'll get a crappy signal because those phones are all over the place.

I also have a Titan and there is an upgrade available which not only extends the frequency range but changes the casing to a rubber type instead of the metal so helping to shield unwanted interference. Contact Transvideo or your nearest dealer about the upgrade. Don't quote me on it but it cost around Euro 200. I have attached a PDF of the new look Titan but what it doesn't say is you can upgrade to the new look shielding. I have been very happy with the product and also own a modulus but both have there strengths and weaknesses.

Titan will not interfere with your Preston Cinema FIZ system. Regardless of the channels selected the FI+Z performance will not be affected. However, to insure a clear video image on the Titan Rx, we recommend the following settings:

 

Titan Tx / Rx set on channel A (2415.5 Mhz), recommended channels for the FI+Z: 9 through 29.

Titan Tx / Rx set on channel B (2427.5 Mhz), recommended channels for the FIZ: 16 through 29.

Titan Tx / Rx set on channel C (2442.5 Mhz), recommended channels for the FIZ: 0 through 6 and 24 through 29.

Titan Tx / Rx set on channel D (2457.5 Mhz), recommended channels for the FIZ: 0 through 12.
