One of my points was that if newbies post their questions on a newbie forum there will be no one there to answer the question. I'm glad there was no "newbie" forum when I was a "newbie" or I might still be one.

I totally agree, but some of the newbies were getting lost in the other forums. Honestly we have a forum for everything and sometimes it might be intimidating for some one new.

The Newbies forum is great if all the "Hey I'm just starting this and how do I Balance the rig and tune the arm" (A 2 or 3 category question according to the way the forum is laid out) are here that way this forum becomes the Steadicam FAQ for beginners, that way their questions aren't scattered all over the forum.

That's all this is too be. Everyone has been screaming for a FAQ for newbies and this was an attempt to start one that was interactive.

I'm only trying to say that we are or at least should be a community from the bottom up.  Let's all love one another,

BIG HUGS,

Chad

I TOTALLY AGREE AND THAT'S WHAT THE STEADICAM GUILD IS ALL ABOUT!

"Any person, any rig, any time is the Guild's motto" -Dan Kneece

The more I think about the seperate space for the new and aspiring operators (I don't like the term "Newbies" either, it sounds a bit demeaning) the less I like it. Lets get rid of it!

As a matter of fact, it sounds like segregation to me!

I think I'm going to call this attitude STEADiCAMISM!

(Hey I just made up a new word, call Webster's Dictionary!)

Hmm this sounds familiar: http://www.gfsnet.org/msweb/sixties/segregation-SB.htm

Don't make me send the national gaurd into this forum!

Instead of having a seperate forum for new opeartors and to help with the "repeat questions problem" perhaps I can create a page (pages) on the guild's website for the most commonly asked questions to the most advanced and even a section on tricks-of-the-trade, if you want it.

I could put links on the guild website to go directly to the threads that have the answers here and past years archives?

Example:

Q: How does one get into steadicam?

A: Click HERE to goto the forum thread on "Getting Started"

The searcher can click on the link and viola! They see a post that says "Take a workshop and if you think you can do it, buy a rig, blah blah blah"

If anyone wants to help come up with a list of common questions and find the links on the forums to those answers that would be great! I can start on it right away.

Hi guys

Great idea!

The wealth of ideas and suggestions in the archives is a true gem for all - and if there was a quick and easy way of tapping into this - I am all for it.

Also I don't know if this is possible (David, Tim) but if someone starts a new topic is there anyway of having an "as disscussed in 2002" type link that looks for/at the subject (they started) and takes you to all the topics in the same subject in the archives? (like you do with subjects at the moment) - I hope this makes sense...

just a thought

All the best and I look forward to seeing it.

Howard

This is a good idea too! I would imagine that would work. Whichever way is the easiest, I'm all for it.

In the meantime I'll work on the Q&A section on the guild web site.

Good ideas guys... let's keep them coming!

Well, I've got a start on the Q&A archive section but I've run into a snag.

The 2004 forum links work fine. The links to the older forums, however, do not come up. You have to log in, so the link becomes lost.

I may have to copy and paste the older posts directly onto the pages of the guild web site. UG.

Toby,

I own a EFP/with a Master Vest. I had a problem with the vest twisting on me while I was operating. It would bother my hip. Peter Abraham added 2 back straps to the Vest and it made a world of difference.
