Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted January 17, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2008 A number of people have been wondering about their status concerning membership into the SG. Some for several months. We do plan to go over applications at the end of this month and we apologize for any delay. (it does take time to go over these applications as we all work and are not always able to meet on a regular basis to vote on applicants.) Thanks. Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted January 22, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2008 Good deal, I can't wait until my free movie theatre vouchers get here! I heard all guild members get 125 a year? or was that 25 a month, I can't remember. Either way, it's good news. I'll start making room for another bookmark in my bar. =)

Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted August 30, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 30, 2008 Hi Richard!! Our guy in charge of membership had a baby not too long ago so he's extermely busy being a new daddy. We've thrown some ideas around to make the application process for him as well as applicants easier but there are details we have to go over. I wish I had a solid date for when the application will be back online but I just don't at the moment. Also, I'm moving in a few weeks so I won't be able to reply to emails or add things to the SG website. Sorry to everyone who has waited. Thank you for your patience. Premium Members John Perry SOC Posted September 2, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 2, 2008 I've had my app in for over 2 years now. I guess I wasn't cool enough. Never even got a rejection letter. No flowers, no card. Someone please teach me the secret handshake.
Premium Members Rich Cottrell Posted September 2, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 2, 2008 When the steadicam guild first started, I did not apply because I worried it was an East Coast vs West Coast thing... but then a few friends joined from the philly area so I too applied. Now that was over a year ago... but if John Perry has had to wait over two years.... well then something is seriously wrong. Seriously, go onto IMDB and look up John. If you can not -- in one second -- tell he should be in the guild, somthing is very out of balance.

Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted September 2, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted September 2, 2008 When Dan Kneece and I co-founded the Steadicam Guild back in 2002, the only requirement we had for people was that they take a recognized Stabilizer workshop. GPI/Tiffen/Cinema Products/SOA etc. etc... this is the most important factor and applicants need to provide proof of taking a workshop. There are no fees to join the Steadicam Guild and actually you don't even need to own a Steadicam to be a member. At one point, we ran into a situation where we had a couple of guys (only 2) who had been Steadicam operators for YEEEEARS and were top operators but who had never taken a workshop. Shocking but true. The difference is they had major major credits to their names and they are very well known. It was obvious that these were the very rare exceptions. To make things fair, we look and evaluate each application. Our schedules have been absolutely crazy between work and growing families. I have to tell you, handling membership applications not only doesn't pay anything, it's a time consuming headache and it's a thankless job. (that's why I don't do it anymore) Having said that, if we decide to ask for volunteers (those who are Steadicam Guild members only of course) to help out with applications, send an email directly to davidgrove@gmail.com and let me know if you are interested. Sorry again for the delay. It's the best we can do for now..
