Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted January 28, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2008 Anybody know anything about these monitors:Marshall Electronics 6.5" HD Monitor w/ HDSDI/SDI, Component, Composite & S-Video inputs I think that this is the one that Tiffen is currently working on... Hi Brian, I have two of the Marshall 7" versions of this monitor in my rental equipment pool; the specs are pretty much identical. They're great little monitors but as Charles says you won't be happy operating with them outside. Even in a little hooded Portabrace case they require you to get your face in close to block the light. They are GREAT little monitors but IMHO not suitable for day-to-day operating. robert stuart
No experience with those monitors but in the price range of 3000 bucks you can get an 8.4" boland hd monitor and it kicks but. It works great in sunlight and the company does a really good job workign with your perticular needs (for example on mine they put the same 7 pin connector on the back that I have on my pro monitor). Hi Mike and Forum, I have a Flyer w/JVC HDV cam and wonder if its possible to pull focus on the fly with the Boland 8.4 Anyone tried this? My first post so hope I pushed all the right buttons! Great Forum btw! Thanks! Robert

Premium Members Hervé Colosio Posted January 29, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 29, 2008 The Nits on papers are interesting , but the reality with the monitors outide is pretty much interesting . many monitors do have a small angle of view , destroying the brightness or picture quality if you are not exactly in front . it's not a nit question . i usually use a Rainbow II super bright transvideo it's a near 1000 nits 110° angle of view , i never have had problemes shooting pictures with this monitor even at twelve in desert . i have use many times the new transvideo cinemonitor HD 8 " outside , without any problems it's not bright as the super bright series but the angle of view is make for steadicam use . the important thing is that transvideo makes monitors for operators work in mind . Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted January 29, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 29, 2008 The Astro is a great little monitor for an assistant and a must have tool for a DIT. Don't think it would be good for steadi proposes, but in a pinch could work. -Alfeo

Also are they modifiable? (ie: can contrast ratio and brightness be brought up to a level good enough to pull focus in daylight without a hood on the monitor ?) Thanks for posting.
