Premium Members MichaelStewart Posted June 20, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Just became an operator about 3 months ago, bought a new vehicle the other day and just noticed my plate number was "428 SOA" A sign maybe? Cheers Mike
Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted June 20, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Not something you might want to advertise on the WORLD wide web. A lot of nut cases out there. They'll now have your name and car's license plate number, it wouldn't be hard to find the state. As ironic as it is, I'd think about deleting this post. Premium Members MichaelStewart Posted June 20, 2004 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Not too worried about it, my business cards have my address/phone on them, who knows who's hands they will end up in. But I appreciate the concern. Mike
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted June 20, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Michael, I can't think of what damage could be done if you had someone's license plate number and knew their name...? Is it that they would figure out the address and then go look for that vehicle on the street to try to break in to steal the equipment...? Trying to follow your thought process on this. Premium Members Marc Abernathy Posted June 20, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 chas, i think that with so many people doing identity theft and bots scouring the internet looking for public posted emails and such, this could invite someone to just "mess" with the original poster... im sure we all agree that keeping as little personal info on public websites about ones self is more preferred... Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted June 21, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 I used to have STDICAM on my license plate when I lived back home in Iowa. I really didn't worry to much about it.
Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted June 22, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 22, 2004 Michael, I can't think of what damage could be done if you had someone's license plate number and knew their name...? Is it that they would figure out the address and then go look for that vehicle on the street to try to break in to steal the equipment...? Trying to follow your thought process on this. That being one of the reasons. I've SEEN a steadicam package left on the street in a vehicle before. I didn't know another Steadicam owner lived around me, but while walking my dog one morning (about 7:30 am, so it was obviously there overnight) I saw it, and it was still there later that afternoon. It like he was hoping to get it stolen for the insurance claim. The sled was in the front seat with the seat belt around it??????? But one can obtain: Name, address, insurance information, driver's license information (number), possibly social security number, and other things from it. The chances are slim and obviously anybody following you could get the license plate number anyway, but hackers are another story. Should someone hack into this website, they have one piece of private information about him that can pretty much allow them to get all the rest should he/she choose. There's a reason they fuzz the license plates of people on live/reality TV shows. You can obtain an awful lot of information about someone from them. Of course the chances are very slim anyone would want to with the original poster, but still, would you give out your driver's license number or social security number on the internet too? You can't find out personal information about people from telephone numbers and email addresses, but with other things yes, and therefore I just suggested it to take the "better safe than sorry" route. His choice though.
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted June 23, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 23, 2004 just noticed my plate number was "428 SOA" A sign maybe? Depends where you are living. In Holland this SOA means "Sexual transmittable deseases" (spelling?) and I´m not sure you would be happy with that :P :P :P Go see a doctor!
