I'm currently using a Modulus 3000 with a Hermes receiver, but I'm having issues with wireless audio. Cheers TB. P.S. I searched for any previous postings on this subject, but found none. Checked prices with Transvideo (Titan,2250,- ?) and with Coherent (1665,- $). Because I don't know the Coherent system, I wanted to check if somebody could fill me in on (des)advantage of this system. Good to consider all your options. I've used several systems and like the Modulus, several models, good transmittion both to a yagi/diversity base station and to little hand held tvs. small light simple, low power consumption but tends to get a little hot. Guest sebastian matthias Posted December 2, 2004 Report Share Posted December 2, 2004 hey hans ! i have worked with the titan once and was not impressed at all ! when it functioned,the transmission was not worth the price. as tj mentioned,the modulus is still the most used uhf transmitter.the newest (and probaly best ) uhf-transmitter at the moment is probably the canatrans.(thex are talking a lot about it at the forum at the moment.have a look!) it´s about 4000 $ so it´s not really at the cheap end. i myself don´t use a uhf transmitter at the moment,just a normal transmitter.it´s build by the guy who does the electronics for baerbels rigs. his name is jochen eichler,and beside from him being a very nice guy,his transmitter (called:VAT-Boy)works really nice.the transmitted picture is nice and sharp and the transmitter is just as small as the modulus.the complete unit with transmitter and receiver is about 1300 EURO.if you need to feed more monitors,you could just get another receiver with it and itwill be still less expensive than getting any of the other units.it really depends what you want to do.if i havethe money to get something bigger,i probably would settle for the canatrans + tuner. if you need tel.-numbers or more information please send me a mail. greetings sebastian Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mhodges Posted December 4, 2004 Report Share Posted December 4, 2004 I recently purchased the Coherant Transmitter and although being skepticle going into testing I've ended up being very pleased with my unit. I suggest getting the diversity reciever. I tried the smaller plastic CVT-500 but ended up purchasing the the 1400 even though it's a little bigger. I just felt that it was a little more robust and the circuitry was a little more professional ( not that I would of ever opened the thing up to take a peak... ;) The reception looks every bit as good as microwave in my opinion but it doesn't freak out as much with multipathing due to the lower frequency. Like microwave, Coherent suggests that its new transmitters are for line of site but I've found no problems in non line of site environments. On an indoor shoot I got away with quite a few walls before the signal started getting problematic. I think the 900mhz spectrum works surprising well and I've gotten no interference yet on any of my shoots (You can test channel activity with the reciever module.) I found the lack of interference surprising considering how many 900mhz devices are being used today (mics, phones etc.) but the big move to 2.4ghz by so many industries might account for some of this which is why I've been leary of going into microwave. I miss the simplicity my old Coherant VHF transmitter which was arguably one of the best TV transmitters during it's time but I find the new transmitters to be much more reliable and solid in their image quality and in some ways easier. Although it may be a little more to set up the reciever as opposed to using a regular TV or handheld TV but I find it a happy compromise. If you do smaller productions for nervous corporate clients it 'seems' to be a little more proffessional using a legal, proprietary system which makes the whole presentation appear more 'specialized'. We worked at 200 meters of distance, (trasmiters & receptor) and the signal arrive very good. Both with Coherent CVR 1500 Receptor model. My advice, if you choice Coherent is: Buy the CVT 1400.
