Workshop - NYC Area? Pilot?

Many questions:

1) How many in the NYC area want a beginner workshop? They say that if we get 6-9 people, they'll make it happen.

2) How applicable is the Flyer workshop for Pilot owners? Any issues I should be aware of?

3) Is there better way to see if folks are interested in a workshop?

1) can't help ya there

2) The Flyer workshop will work out great for a Pilot owner. Mention ahead of time that you you'd like to bring your rig and it shouldn't be a problem.

3) This isn't a bad start. Maybe you can post on Craig's List, or advertise at local film schools?

This just seems to mirror the regular steadicam workshop site,

http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com/

which is where I learned that they will set up a workshop in a particular area if there is enough interest.

Am I missing something here?

I attended Peter's Flyer workshop in Las Vegas last month to learn the Pilot. He took time to help me adjust the Pilot vest and center post which are a bit different than the Flyer. Outside of setting up the vest and balancing, the Flyer instruction translates to the Pilot.

Check out his sites...

I really doubt you will have any problem getting enough people for a workshop in NYC. Talk to Peter Abraham. He is the guy who teaches the workshops and he actually lives in new york.

Thanks! I didn't know he lives in New York. Good info.

steadicamflyer.com has his email - Thanks!

I'd drop Peter an email... he may be using both the Flyer and the Pilot on the workshops. Thats what we intend to do here in the UK anyway.

Will do!

OK, so it looks like we have 7 people interested (5 on the DVinfo thread, and 2 on DVXuser). From what I can tell, if we have 6, 7 or 8, they will probably post a public workshop on their website for somtime this summer, and then wait to see if they get a full class of 9. But if we can get a group of 9 people, then they will hold a private workshop, probably much sooner. Since it's only been a week and we already seem to have 7 people interested, I would wait a little longer to see if we can get 9.

In any case, I'll email the instructor again and see what he says.

Hi Folks,

I will be instructing the New York Flyer / Pilot Workshop. Details still being arranged. Many kudos to Dave for creating such positive inertia !!!! Keep an eye on the Tiffen Steadicam Workshops web site for all of the details as soon as they are locked in place. Registration will be as per the usual route.

Notice that both rigs are now shown in the name of the workshop. Because they are both lighter rigs, and their payload capacity overlaps to a degree, we have decided to couple them in the same 2-day intensive workshop.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Best,

Peter Abraham

OK, Just got an update on the NYC area workshop from Peter the instructor.

He is looking at a Steadicam Workshop in the NY area in the next few months. Date to be announced within a day or so. ANYONE who wants in should email Peter at peter@thesteadicamworkshops.com to get on the list. That way, he can insure that the people expressing interest on these threads actually get in. Once he has 9 names, the workshop is closed.
