Looking for cheesed out video camera plate

Hi, I did a HD job the other day and the assistant came out with a plate to replace the heavy quick release plate we usually have to deal with. This plate had the standard video male receiver tie down screw to connect with the camera. Lots of holes to connect my dovetail to as well. I think Clairmount Camera has them but was looking for a similar plate. Any help would be cool. Thanks , Ron

Hi Ron:

Here's another. Haven't used it but it looks pretty light compared to standard (I have one of those that I had milled out so that it looks like a shotgun hit it--only pulled out a few ounces, sadly, but it never gets confused for anyone elses)!

Are you going back on the Silverman show? Looking forward to new episodes, they slay me.

Hi Charles, I'm glad you enjoy her. She isn't for everyone. But she is really sweet and professional. She comes prepared and starts every master with the saying" Lets have fun with this one people" to the crew. She makes it fun. They are busy scrambling for new material and hope to be back in mid-April shooting. Thanks for the feedback with this and all the other things in which you have helped. Have a good year! Aloha, Ron Veto

Indeed, we do have these mounting plates at Clairmont, they are pretty nice, and we have some with rods off 'em too for motors. If the steadicam op doesn't come in during the prep we generally don't know that a F900 or Varicam job has steadicam. So make sure to mention the plate to your AC!

A DIT that frequents Clairmont and was prepping an F900 package sans AC a couple weeks ago. Just as she was packing up she held out our heavy mounting plate (made by us for use with rods) and dovetail and asked if there might be any lighter solution for steadicam, as they had a lot of it on the shoot. Had she not had that presence of mind, the operator would have been stuck with an extra few unnecessary pounds.

Let that be a lesson to us all--unless you are intimately familiar with the rental house and what they have available, going to the prep on HD jobs is crucial. I tried to skip one the other week but ended up going and there was a whole slew of new issues that I hadn't dealt with before (and Steadi was first up the next morning). Would have been screwed.

Thats why you Da man and the rest of us end up flying the extra pounds . . . .

Hey there,

Utah and Japan huh? Sorry, but I don't recall. I remember better by production co. and job name. I take it that was an HD prep, other details might jog my memory. We had the plate, if I didn't bring you one I apologize. I'm gonna assume that we were out, or that it was a crazy busy day and my mind was scattered. Yeah, that's it...

Give me a good kick in the head next time you see me. Did the shoot go well?

And yes, the DIT I spoke of is Michelle, she's awesome.
