Guest Mik Cribben
Just got my red and have ordered a power cable from Terry West. I have also ordered a six foot cable for the RED LCD from Red which makes the LCD a cheap back up for my TB6.. The 2 foot cable they supply with the camera us just a little short. Three foot would be perfect but they only make them in two , six , and ten. Mik Cribben IA 600 NYC/Miami 800-235-2713
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted September 24, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 So would this concept work the same way for us Flyer LE owners that have 3-pin Lemo power on the stage? Since the rig is 12/24v switchable, could I have a cable made that would seperate the 2 12v pins and essentially give me 2 12v outputs? I'm curious because I have a gig with a naked RED One coming up and it would benefit me to power it off the sled. I also may need to power a F/F unit so that's why I wonder about splitting the 3-pin connector..
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted September 24, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 Mike: You may want to consider adding an additional 12v jack on the junction box of your sled so that you can avoid having to do split power cables down the road for different cameras. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted September 24, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2008 Charles, I know you have some experience with that Franken-Flyer of yours, so you know what the Lemo jack built into the stage looks like. Do you have any recommendations for J-Boxes? Thanks for the reply..

Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted September 27, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 27, 2008 Just called Terry and placed my order for both the RED One cable and a Y-cable for my Flyer LE's 3-pin Lemo. 10pm for me...7pm for him, and he was more than happy to help. Very quick turn-around as well!!
viking ding
Hi, The plugs on the end of the cable looks like the standard LOMO power plugs... You can get them from RS components and its a simple job to put your own bit of wire in between.... According to the RED manual the RED end of the power cable is a LEMO plug FGG.2B.306.CLAD 62 Z Pins 1 & 2 +12V DC Pins 3 & 4 - VDC it says it is important to use both pairs of pins. I'm not sure if using a PRO sled whether it would be best to use one 3 pin LEMO power port only or make a siamese cable that also uses the 2 pin LEMO auxiliary port as well. This would allow you to hot swap batteries on the sled and not have to power down the camera (which takes a while to boot up) if you are in a rush. we can supply the plug as lemo, it is used by some view company, you can contact me by msn: polsun530@hotmail.com i can supply the free samples to you . regards. viking

Premium Members Alexander Alexandrov Posted June 2, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 2, 2009 hello. I m trying to mount RED One on a steadicam flyer has anyone tried to power it from the RED Batteries if hosted at the bottom. i need a cable that will be a Male to RED Power and Male to the small lemo port available on the flyer i was also thinking of Dtap powering but it will blow up the fuse. any ideas, suggestions, cable referrals will be of great help thank u! Premium Members Charles Papert Posted June 2, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 2, 2009 The fuse on a D-tap is rated with enough juice for the RED--according to Anton Bauer, they are nominally rated at 7 amps and certain versions go as high as 10 amps. The power line on a Flyer is fairly small gauge, might want to check with Tiffen (Steadicam) to make sure it can adequately handle the draw of RED. Terry West (310-374-5711) can make you cables if Tiffen doesn't already sell that one (they should!)

Premium Members Andy Johnson Posted June 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 10, 2009 I have had 2 cables made by Marrell with the request of "Glidecam Gold 3 pin camera power to Red 6 pin". I have them now but after reading the forum I am a bit worried. I have attached a clear image so you can pass comment. Is this right and will it work having 2 pins power 4 according to my modified diagram? I have the shoot with the RED on Saturday.......brickin' it now. Obi Wan you are my only hope. Richard James Lewis
They need to be twinned onto both pins. The attachment also clearly states this. I'd change if for you if you were local, but best call Marell. Worst case, just power it off a brick. I've not even used my RED cable yet... Rick. Richard James Lewis
We can't actually see from your picture if the pins have been paired, we can only see pins 5 and 6 bare, which should be the case anyway... Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted June 11, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 11, 2009 On the RED connector are the wires attached to two pins each? If so and they are the right ones you should be fine. If they are only connected to one pin each on the RED side then I would not use it. ~Jess
