Just ran across this clip on youtube but didn't catch the credits on the show....anyone know who did this? I have to admit that after the second time around the artist I was getting a bit bored...BUT then the operator opened up and you reailzed that it was all really nicely timed and thought through....working very nicely with movement and the zoom to create some nice effects! All in all very smooth and impressive.Also I am pretty sure he (or she) had to work pretty hard to avoid the shadows from the artists follow spot... In my opinion a VERY nice shot...it looked almost to simple to start with but we all know how hard it is to make things look that easy don´t we. Definately KUDOS to whoever it was. Just my 5cents... When I am not filling in for Eastwood, Vuona or Hector here in LA, I manage to occasionally get back to my old stomping grounds of Nashville to work a show or two. Thanks Charles and Sebastion for your kind words. It means a lot especially coming from my peers. It's funny because I never saw the finished product until this link was posted, and it looks like the editors cut off the first 10 seconds of the piano intro with the camera moving up the strings & hammers. They got into the song at an odd moment when I was changing directions....oh well, thank you post production :( The director and I plotted the camera move with only a music chart, cd, and one practice during sound check. After the rehearsal we made a few notes, drank a Jack Daniels (we were in Tennessee, afterall), and what you saw was the finished product. Unfortunately I caught my shadow a little bit in the beginning, but if I were given the chance at a 2nd take, it would have been perfect ;) I must give most of the kudos to my camera utility, Hugh Wilson. Without the guys behind me managing the cable and spotting me for safety, I could not do what I do. It was a heavy Ikegami HD camera tethered by a fiber camera cable, which made the move a bitch to accomplish without getting snagged or tangled, tripping over footlights and audio monitors which are hard to see on a darkened stage, or seeing my cable in the shot because of the multiple 360's. Thanks Hugh! The director of the Grand Ole Opry series (Jim Yockey) loves Steadicam and gave me 2 entire songs in the show to shoot with one shot, all on Steadi. Eastwood shouldn't be nervous at all, he is still number 1 in my book and I have a huge respect for his work. We are friends and he's given me a lot of work the last couple of years. I am happy to be picking up his breadcrumbs. He's got to retire sometime though ;) BTW Jeff, all your buddies were on the crew of this show....Pat Gleason on techno, Mike Breece on Jib, etc. I know you work with Nashville guys alot. I only used one cable puller for this move, but he was a good one, Hugh Wilson. I have been working with him for 10 years now and he just knows what to do with the cable. When you work with a good assistant for so long, things just fall into place. His position is always about 2ft behind me and the camera. He spots the sled, my feet, the cable, and is always ready to prevent any potential accidents. I cannot stress enough the importance of who is behind you while operating. My thought is that this is exactly the kind of discussion that we were thinking should not go into this category, as it has largely been about the "nuts and bolts" (still a valuable discussion, but not about aesthetics).
