Due to the somewhat slow spring I've been able to train for the New York City Triathlon. It's an Olympic qualifying race so it's a 1 mile swim, in the Hudson river -yikes!!- then a 26 mile bike, followed by a 6mile run that finishes in Central Park.

Gotta keep fit for those 'crazy' days.

Sorry if this is in-appropriate for this board. All supportive thought greatly appreciated though. The race is this Sunday morning @7Am start.

Will,

That is great, man. I used to do tri's when I was in Santa Cruz, but that was a looong time ago (1984 - 1986). With the Hudson (as opposed to the Pacific), at least the water temp will be quite pleasant. Let's hope that the river's water quality has improved as much as they say that it has. Best of luck my friend... let us know how you do.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the support. What a day it was!!! My first Olympic distance Tri completed in 2 hrs 21 mins (winning times around 2:00 hrs). I was 51st out of the 240 in my age group 30-34. Total participants 1500. 20 mins for the 1 mile swim (with a little bit of current going my way). 1 hr 12 min for the 26 mile bike. 41 min for the 6.2 mile run. I ran the last 2 miles at a sub 6min pace (5:45) after I realized I had saved too much and had a lot left to come in feeling strong and fast. So the hook is set to really test what I can do next time. I would hope for 1 hr on the bike and a 36 min run (my PR for 6.2mi is 34:04).

I hope to be able to carry on some sort of training even when work kicks in again, but you know how it gets on a movie, No time for anything else but sleep! But as Chris Silano (top shelf NY AC) pointed out to me, we do 16 hr days of total endurance, let alone carrying the rig around too!

For all the ups and downs in our business, the penny-pinching producers, and the hard hours, we really do have a blessed career. Learning to enjoy the time off is just as hard as seeking out the next job. Today was a wonderful day in appreciating this great job that I have, earning the money to earn the time off.

Thanks again to my friends who sent their thoughts and well wishes.

Will
