Premium Members christophe soffietti Posted March 12, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2008 Hi guys, some friends of me told about the famous antonbauer L-Ion Dionic 90, 14,4V - 90W/pH to power up the PRO and accessories and a greedy 435 for example. http://www.antonbauer.com/dionic.htm Thinking to move through from my Nicd Hytron 50, I'm considering an offer from a chinese dealer, L-Ion same 14,4v 95W/pH and same mount, for 3 times cheaper. http://www.globale-batterie.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_71/products_id/2331 What do you think ? Chris, from Marseille, south of France. csofiet@free.fr +33 609 973 914 I believe there has been some posts here relating to the safety circuitry Anton Bauer puts into their Dionic batteries to keep them from catching fire on the chargers. Check those out. I've seen those batteries on E Bay and like most things in life I suspect you get what you pay for. But please try them and let us know. Premium Members christophe soffietti Posted March 13, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 Hi Lawrence, in fact, as you can imagine, I already got some informations about it, in particular from a company using 6 of those batteries for somthlike 1,5 year and they are very happy from, but they only use them for video cameras. (1 batt - more than 4 hours shooting). But the thing I'd really like to see it's if some Steadicam operator have already used it. But be sure I'll post what I'll learn about, Thanks. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted March 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 Chris, I don't know what sled you are using but you should check the size of those batteries to make sure they fit on your sled (the PRO sled has some clearance issues on the front battery plate and the top rear to fit under the recorder mount). Premium Members christophe soffietti Posted March 13, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 Hi Lawrence, you defintively right. it exists 2 different size, 84mm, and 55mm corresponding to the dionic 90 size. They copied as the Chinese often knows to do the exact caracterics, electronics, until box size !!! I gona buy some to check how good are they. Today I modified my two antonbauer interacive charger to allow them to charge L-ION batteries. Chris.
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted March 13, 2008 Moderators Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 "Today I modified my two antonbauer interacive charger to allow them to charge L-ION batteries." Chris, I've been using Anton Bauer batteries for years and swear by the product as well as the service. It would seem all of the fires that have been happening (granted, in the grand scheme of things, there have been relatively few) have been with cheap Chinese cells. Also, if you already own Anton Bauer chargers, you may find that they won't charge the knock off batteries because they are interactive and may not "like" foreign batteries. Check for yourself. I should add that a friend of mine does use knock offs on his PRO II and is very happy with them (he uses their chargers as well).

AB has some proprietary circuit protection in their Batts that communicate with their chargers and or visa versa. It might not work so well with brand x. Is that company using them on the AB chargers? If not try one away from any flammables first.
Premium Members christophe soffietti Posted March 14, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 14, 2008 Hi Guys, I physically saw the batteries today, and they are 14,4 V 100W/h !!! those are Japonese Dionic 90 cells and chinese assembly. It's better than I was scared about. But I still have to check AB/L-Ion modified chargers working with. I'll post next week the results ...
