Aloha Mark,

I'm not shure if you can flip the image upside down. But I know there is a "scan reserve" function you can turn on when using an 35mm adaptor. Well...if I think correctly it should do the same effect to the image, doesn't it?

Best.

Gents--

How about a solid VLS bracket which grasps the entire Varicam chassis with complete rigidity and adds complete functionality for low mode rigging and accessory mounting like Antlers and transmitters while in high mode?

Allows for all tape functions and button access.

In stock and ready to ship.

Best,

Brant

Brant,

Just yesterday I was on a Varicam job. It was a music video, and we were going back and forth from high to low quite frequently. We were using the scan-reverse feature since it made the switch a sub-60sec procedure. However, during a break, the 1st AC commented that it's a good thing the Varicam will flip the image because she didn't trust those little low-mode handle clamps. "Oh, you haven't seen...." I said as I pulled out the VLS. She was more than impressed. To paraphrase, her reaction was something like, "Obviously, that's how it should be done."

With all due respect, and there is a place for low mode brackets, flipping an image in any post/edit software, is a simple key stroke. In fact, I have flipped cameras upside down during live TV shows and had the TD flip it live in a switcher. Its really not that big of a deal. In fact, we wear chasing the sun set in "Across The Universe" and my first AC recommended the "flip" to the DP and he gladly went along with the idea in the efforts saving time (Arricam). Easy to flip in a "DI". Of course now, with my MKV, I am over to super low in 4 minutes, no big deal that way either...

I never had problem with tripod adapter plate in low mode. I just shot a scene today with a HPX2100 flipped. No problem at all. Very solid. But I have to say it's a newer plate. And once I had problem with an older plate on sticks that had too much play on the interlocking. That was with a Varicam. I didn't try to set it up on Steadicam, but I guess there would have been some visual influence in the shot.

Cheers.

Lukas
