Canatrans Mounting

Hello,

 

Since the Canatrans is a little bit bigger and heavier then my previous Mod 3000. I had to come up with a place for it. Here are my two cents.

 

- loose the Canatrans base plate, that exposes the already existing threads

- drill holes in PRO recorder mount and make room for the screw heads (I used a Dremel tool)

- mount the canatrans on the recorder mount plate

- order a 6 inch video/power cable from Lentequip

- done!

And now put the recorder where? Why not just put the transmitter on top of the camera, where the antenna will be at the highest point, or velcro it under the Preston.MDR? But if you want the weight down below then it looks like a nice mounting job.

For lo-mode that's a great solution.

 

For High mode that location is great for exactly two things, poor signal at the village and ensuring that your blood line ends with you.

 

Always mount the transmitter as high as possible, MDR or higher.

Good question, Doc.

First, I did not want to add more weight above the gimbal and second, do we know for sure that there is no interference between the powerful canatrans and the MDR?

I've never had an interference issue with my Cana-Trans and either Scorpio or Preston MDR's

The MRD uses a digital signal, while the Canatrans' broadcasts it's picture via a UHF signal that's analog. The two bands will never effect one other. As for your placement of the transmitter on your recorder mount on your ProII seld - I used to do the same thing, until I spent some time listening to a very experienced video tec., who explained the basics behind how the transmitters work.

 

Assuming that the transmitter's antenna is 100% vertical, it will emit (send to the reciever) it's signal on a horizontal plane in a donut fashion in all directions. So if the horizontal transmitting plane is blocked by things like your body, focus puller, actor, on-set lamps, ect. the video signal is effected and the reciever struggles to bring in a clean signal.

 

So in a nutshell - that's why the higher the transmitter is placed the better & the better the reception should be - remembering that the reciever's antenna needs to be vertical (the same degree of pitch as the transmitter's antenna) as well.
