Stephen Vanderspek
What the hell is up with all the ropes you have tied off to you and the rig? What's the purpose? Gunna assume here, that its to keep him from falling out of the van. Edited December 30, 2008 by Stephen Vanderspek
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 30, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 30, 2008 Can't see everything but it looks like a somewhat ill conceived attempt at that. Ideally your arm would be hardmounted and you would be wearing a harness tied in so that you can't fall out. Falling out and being dragged is worse than just plain falling out even if those extra ropes and shit convince the producer or AD or whoever that you are trying to be safe. If you needed to get in or out of the van during the shot than soft mount would be in order, but then you should still have a harness and someone to clip you in and out of it. ~Jess

Ryan Somerfield
yeah something i wont be doing again.. hey the shot worked though i had the ropes going through my vest so i wasn't going anywhere and 2 grips holding onto me while we were in motion, didnt get past 40 anyway.. dont warry my cam tech and i thought it was an absolute joke too but we had to work with what we had.. nothing.. you may also notice the rubber bands on the arm to help carry the weight.. as the flyer isn't designed for that kind of weight Edited January 13, 2009 by Ryan Somerfield
Moderators Louis Puli SOC Posted January 14, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted January 14, 2009 What not to put on a steadicam flyer out the side of a minibus :| MY POINT EXACTLY!! <_< but hey it worked.. ?? And this makes all the difference.I don't think so ! Yes BUT I may have a drives licence but I don't think they will let me drive a Formula 1 car. But I own a steadicam Flyer . This is getting deep. Good luck Ryan Louis Puli
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted March 8, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 8, 2009 I have done a number of RED shoots now but finally had the first one where I tried the red shoulder mount. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no play in it. The owner said that he had seen ones with play in them but for some reason his seems to be tighter and doesn't have any problems. So if you find yourself stuck with it as your only option you might want to try it and see if you get lucky. ~Jess
Members Rusty Geller
One close up from the smart side: I discoverd my 25 year old CP long clamp plate matches the holes on the RED top brackets. The back recessed Panavision-intermediate plate holes line-up and the front lightening holes line up, you just have to use washers. The plate is so long it clears the donkey box on my PRO. I did a big fight sequence in lo-mode and it was solid. My next question is, will the internal wires in the PRO post safely power the RED from the donkey box? By safely, I mean safely for my PRO. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted April 7, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 7, 2009 G'day Rusty. Hope you are well. I had a cable made by Terry West for RED power from the PRO and it works just fine. It uses both camera power and aux power plugs so you are using double the post wires (at least for the +12 side). He can be reached at: 310 374-5711 or techrat@earthlink.net Search the forum, I think this has been discussed before.
