Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted September 29, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 29, 2009 Marianne mounted the regular HD6SB upside down it was her choice and most of the steadicam operators present (shootout) agreed with that choice. so if transvideo now changed the orientation of that display, you would not have to do that anymore. see pictures: monitor-shootout
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted September 29, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 29, 2009 Marianne mounted the regular HD6SB upside down Dear Jens. Funnily enough, I got that bit already. Since I can angle the monitor any way I want, on the fly, thanks to the CoG mount, I can see no reason for wanting the monitor any other way than how it is. I never mount it on a stand. All the best, Chris
Premium Members Thomas K. Jensen Posted January 18, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 I just found out, that Transvideo now makes a new CineMonitorHD8 SBL Evolution. It's only §600 more expensive than the 6", and as I have been thinking of buying it for about six months now, it might be a good idea to go for the bigger screen. I even think it fits right in the Clippers "Center of gravity monitor yoke" - so I just replace my 7" Compsite monitor, without any other brackets. Have any of you tested this monitor - and do you think it will be to big? I think, that as I'm used to the 7" (16:9) - the 8" screen will only feel a little bigger, as it is a 4:3 panel. What do you think? Thomas
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 19, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hi Thomas, I've used it a little. It's a wonderful monitor, of course. I don't think it's too big. It fit the Clipper I flew it on very well. Between it and the 6" is really a personal choice. I think you'd be happy with either one. So you don't think it's too big? The weight is not a problem - as it is only 300grams heavier. I think I will go with the 8"
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 19, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hi Thomas, If you mean 'too big' in terms of optimal viewing size, there's a discussion of that on this page: http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=9953&st=135 In that sense, I don't think it's too big. If you mean 'too big' to fit on your monitor bracket, maybe yes. The 6" Transvideo fits (with the addition of 2 rubber washers) on the standard 7" monitor yoke. You might need the Ultrabrite monitor yoke instead, but I can't conform this. Best call the Steadicam factory and ask them. Good luck! But it was good that you mentioned the size of the case. I had not thought of that being a problem. And it turned out, that the difference in psychical size between the CineMonitorHD 6 and 8" is not that much. 6" is 195 x 160 x 58 mm (l x h x d) 8" is 215 x 183 x 62 mm And the Steadicam 7" is 212 x 150 x 50 - so there is room for the 8" in the Tiffen Ultra/Clipper/Archer monitor yoke. So now all I have to do is scrape together the cash, so I can get the last monitor I'll need for my rig :-) Next week, I'm getting the Titan HD to test, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to buy it. Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 19, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hi Thomas, Please let me know how you get along, You going for the Classic or the Evolution? Yea, you'll probably keep the Titan too. Transvideo is habit forming. All the best, Chris

And if I decide to spend some more money on the monitor, it will be the CineMonitorHD8 SBL Evolution with the Virtual Horizon. And I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna keep the TitanHD. Its what has kept me away. The 6" screen is simply too small when you look at a letter box image in it. And a standard def 4x3 image is silly small. By the time you take into account the distance your eyes are from the screen, you loose the benefit of HD. Go big. Im glad to see Transvideo spending time on a larger screen. BTW, I love the Sony OLED monitor, PVM740 7.4". Jeff

So now I just have to get the 6K to spend on it :-)
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 20, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 20, 2011 Hi Jeff, I feel very differently about this. I understand that some people like the 8" better, but the 6" is a great monitor size. I'm not tempted to swap up. My 2 inches, Chris
Premium Members Tomas Riuka Posted January 21, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 21, 2011 Second that, Chris. I tried 8 inch transvideo, for my taste it was too big too. As transvideo screen is 4:3, of course, the image could be better, but 8 inches is too big.
Premium Members Joel San Juan Posted January 23, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 Am not sure if what I last read was correct but the 8" has a lower nit reading than the 6"? Can anyone verify? It'll be great to know. Thanks Joel

As for the 4:3 format, you put all the measuring info down below the 16:9 portion: timecode, horizon, battery level, histograms, waveforms, Cooke lens data, audio, etc., so the whole screen gets used. When you shoot 4:3, then that info overlays the bottom of the picture. It works out just fine. Chris
