checking dynamic balance with a too short docking bracket (w/o spinning)

Please let me know the best way to check dynamic balance without a enough long docking bracket, i'm always hitting the c-stand with monitor and battery (if someone from artemis-sachtler is listening, please change your design of artemis dv pro).

I have the same problem with my rig. Try to check it with the rig on, I mean spin it when you have it on. It should be ok like this, also because your dinamic balance it's gonna be important when you have your rig on.

sorry, no way to do it, i'm tryng to fly an hdv with a big battery but still light so my monitor and batteries are to close to the gimbal and i cant do a 360 wearing it. :-( i'm looking to weight-up the camera, do you have some suggestion? maybe a DOY camera cage?

I have experimented with adding weight to my XL-1 by using using gaffers tape to attach two boxes of 9 volt batteries to the small low-mode bracket and attaching the whole monstrosity to the handle of the camera. This added several pounds and made the camera much less susceptible to wind or small unintentional bumps. So far it is working for me.

It would be easy to imagine that if the DB was off on that rig, the monitor would have quickly slammed against the arm.

 

One thing that I suggested at our recent Steadicam Guild workshop was to use the F bracket to offset the rig away from the stand for dynamic balancing. Undersling the gimbal, attach the F-bracket and safety pin and hopefully you will have the clearance you need. And as always, make sure the stand is sturdy and protected from tipping with the offset rig.
