Premium Members Ron Veto Posted August 21, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 Here is yet another reason to have an agent. I was stiffed two times before I started working with RTA. In both cases, I just didnt' get paid. Since signing with RTA, I've had two situations where it didn't look like the producer was going to pay. I just called Russ and told him what was going on. He made a phone call or two, worked some of his secret magic and the next thing I know, there's a FedEx guy at my door with a check............... Every steadicam operator should have an agent (that is if you like beter working conditions, more work and more money). mm. Just a update about "The Ultimate Group" I threatened to escalate this matter to the D.A. Bad check program they offer.Three bounced checks. I gave them the required 2 week courtesy period after mail/certifying the D.A. paperwork to them. They didn't even have the brains to pay up even though my lawsuit was on the desk of the D.A. office. The D.A.'s office called me to tell me that they will send them an official letter and then call as well. That this is now a criminal matter. At this point I cannot communicate or accept any payment directly from them. Now it has to be paid to the D.A. then given to me. The Ultimate idiots called me to ask for a new invoice under a different company name for them.I hung up on them. Watch out! Looks like they will be shedding their Ultimate skin for another shell. Beware. I'll keep ya posted. Aloha, Ron Veto
Premium Members BJMcDonnell SOC Posted August 21, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 Ron, The "Ultimate Group" is such a awful bunch. Im sorry you have to deal with them. I had to go down there and be "That Guy" and demand my check with force. I eventually got my check after I had to threaten them after two bounced checks. They give the run around and try to tell you what you want to hear yadda yadda yadda. Again if anyone gets a call from "The Ultimate Group" or Christopher Brian Films", or "Chris Stokes" TURN IT DOWN! For your own good even if you are a new operator trying to get experience trust me and many other ops on this board, you will have to battle for your money. I use to do alot of their videos and they use to actually pay but something went sour with them and it is a really bad deal. Keep us updated Ron. Well the "Ultimate Slezebag Group" finally paid. But only after repeated letters and calls from the L.A. D.A. office. They paid the money and have to pay a $200.00 fine and attend a financial responsibility school for one afternoon. That's that. The bad check program from the city does work. Just don't let it go on for more than a year or they cannot act on it. If you get a bounced check it's a good way to go when the company ignores repeated requests for payment. Beware of "The Ultimate Group"!!!!and Chris Brian Films. I think they will re-surface under a different name. They wanted still yet another invoice but under a different name. I told them to go to hell and filed. Resolved. Aloha, Ron Veto
Premium Members Ron Veto Posted October 20, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted October 20, 2008 One more thing. I want to Thank You all for helping and giving me your ideas for dealing with these kind of issues. Hopefully it helps us all survive in these times when idiot producers try to stiff us with their tricks. Thanks again, Ron Veto
Mark Woods
As much as this situation sucks, if some doesn't pay I find it's almost always because they haven't had the money through to them from their own client. Whilst we all serve invoices generally on 30 day terms, it's not common for big corporations to pay on 120 day terms or even longer. Under those circumstances, it can be extremely difficult to say the least for small production outfits to keep their heads above the water in cashflow terms. And if they all just gave up, we'd all be out of a lot of work that *does* eventually pay. It's really the production company's job to collect the portion that is earmarked to pay the crew from the client up front; if they haven't done thier part, then it is their fault when they haven't enough to pay you in a timely manner Just my 2 cents Mark Edited November 12, 2008 by Mark Woods
