Premium Members mark morgan Posted June 19, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 19, 2008 aloha gents just thinking if there was a tv truck,flypac or video village more than 100 to 500 feet away from set would it be possible to run the receiver up hi or wherever it may work, thats out of the way from other interference which could cause problems. Would it be possible to run an sdi cable from the receiver to the truck,flypac or even video village and still get the same results with a clean picture and no latency not sure if this has been tried out or not, reason i ask is i haven't heard anything about this type of set up. My plan with the Camwave is that I will have the receiver with battery on back set up on a c-stand as close to the set as possible at all times, and if the shot has a fair amount of travel I will have someone carry it in a belt pack near the camera. Functionally this is similar to being hardwired and having someone wrangle the cable, the difference is that the cable starts at the receiver rather than at the camera. For certain shots such as traveling between floors in an elevator, there's a good chance that transmission will be lost but this has always been the case for this sort of shot unless one has done elaborate pre-wiring of diversity antennas for standard RF transmission. If it takes them a while to get this dialed in, it might get interesting as the Boxx folks are due to have their unit out by the end of the year. I did check with the dealer at Precision Camera and his info is they are 6 weeks away form the software upgrade that will allow the unit to work . I was impressed with the test at 60i, and 50i, really strong, no breakup unitl i put a steel loading door between me and the receiver. I was also looking at the Boxx site, and would love to run a side by side comparison when the two units are available for a real test. Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted November 10, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 Worked on a RED show where they had this unit and it's internal fuse would blow when mounted on the camera V-lock and the battery mounted to it. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted November 10, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 Just did a three day shoot with the Camwave sandwiched in between the RED battery and the camera, no problems with power. Picture was rock steady, although we were on stage the whole time (I hear folks are having more issues with it outside). It's an absolute life-changer. Erwin was operating for me so he got the real benefit of it, but the couple of times I rolled up the sleeves to do a handheld shot it was almost stunning to see the camera body with no cables hanging off it (having been staring at the engineering monitor for hours, completely forgetting I was looking at a transmitted image).
