Hi all,

Does anyone have to hand an idea of the weight of a F900, Pro35 and prime (say, SuperSpeed) setup? Only AKS would be Bartech + video sender.

Would I be able to fly that on a G-50? Sled would be an archer.

Thanks!

Hi Ed!. For any question about Archer, speak with Chris Fawcet... He´s one of the most well-knower of this gear and G-50. I know, that he gets very high limits with it.

Best regards.

I had an F900R on my ProVid two weeks ago and meant to weigh it but forgot. :( Sorry! But my arm can't hold more than the R so you probably won't have too much trouble. The 900/3 is too heavy.

Just make sure that it has the internal downconvert board if you're going to a SD monitor and/or Modulus. Not all of the Rs have 'em.

Hi Ed,

did a feature w/ 900 about a year ago on my Archer. Set-up was 900, Pro35, mattebox, 14mm, FF, CanaTrans and battery (Hytron 50, 850g) for the CanaTrans. I think I had a battery also on the camera, this due to the front heaviness of the set-up.

It weighed in at about 18.5kg/40lbs. I have a G-70 though. The 50 can take 22.5kg.The Archer weighs in at 4kg. With a Hytron 120 on the sled (2.5kg), you're already over the limit of the arm. You should test this set-up before doing the job. And yes, you will need to add extra weight at the bottom of the sled, or else it won't work. In my experience I would say the arm would be an issue, specially if the DP and/or director wants the camera higher, the arm will drop a bit, for sure.

Good luck

Thanks for your confidence, Amando, but LE is the guru in this department!

Good to know, Lars Eric. Thanks for the precise info.

Guys, it's not the arm, it's the Gimbal that is always the weight limit. And no I wouldn't try it, you might get it to actually fly and balance but you won't be doing your best work.

Thank you everyone for your typically sagely advice!

Looks like the DP is happy to switch out the Pro35, etc for an HJ-11 for the steadicam work as he wants it all very wide and deep focus in any case. I've had the exact same setup with 750s before on the Archer with no problem and plenty of 'go' left in the arm so this should be fine.

Eric - re the gimbal; I actually hadn't considered that. Easy to forget that the one component which almost disappears in your awareness whilst operating is actually the most crucial part of all.
