Dan Martland
Has anyone else out there tried modifying there sk2 rig by changing the green crt monitor for a full colour 7" monitor. Ive chatted with the guys at steadicam and they think it can be done but it wont be easy. I will have to the mods myself. SACHTLER sell this bracket which will replace what i all ready have. And then i was thinking of buying a Marshall sunbright monitor. I know a guy who can help me with the cabling. The SACHTLER bracket costs $800 alone. And then im gonna have to fork out the cash for a monitor. Has anyone else done this modification cheaper. If so i would love to know. Many thanks Dan
Premium Members Erik Brul Posted June 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 Hey Dan, Maybe a other idea is a sort of upgrade of the bottom part of the Sled. Richard Lewis, operator in the UK is selling the bottom part of a Archer Sled. It should be possible to hook the Archer Base to the Post of the SK2. That way you can have a also a video lines upgrade, power upgrades and sliding battery mounts.. It's just a idea, take a look at : http://hbsboard.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=9d...mp;topic=3161.0 Best, Erik ps. posted 1 pic of the base, think Richard wouldn't mind ;)

Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted June 27, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 It can be done on the cheap, but will take significantly more work. I don't have an SK2 but I did make my own monitor arm out of aluminum tubing when I switched my rig from green screen to LCD and I am about to make version 2 . I used the post clamp from my CRTs monitor arm and then used square aluminum tubing for the arm itself. Drilled some holes, attached a plate with velcro to mount my archos and added a ball joint that came with my LCD monitor. Version 2 will use a sturdier all metal ball joint, have internal wiring, include power and video lines for my archos and possibly a video distribution amplifier. ~Jess
