Hi folks,

Just wanted to share my new toy.

After flying 2 sk2 rigs and trying to upgrade the second one, i was facing the limits every day, it was more than enough. After a lot of thinking and flying several rigs, i am now the new owner of a brand new Gidecam Gold. What a differences, for the first time, i don't have to lift the arm while flying anymore :P ( Too much stuff on the sk2, even after upgrading to provid arm )

I know it is not a pro ore master ultra and so on. But for me, this is a world of differences. And several ops told me that the are surprised about its performance.

Feel like a little child under the Christmas tree.

By all and greetings

Job Scholtze

Congrats on the new rig! I agree with you that the Glidecam Gold is a major step up from the Provid-level rigs from Tiffen. The arm is much beefier and smoother, and the sled comes equipped with a lot more internal wiring, making it a much more versitile rig. I think the Glidecam Gold is one of the best values out there in terms of price/performance.

Hi Matt,

Sure i can tell you about the rig. I am still happy with it. Fly's like a dream for me, better every day. Because the rig has so many options for balancing i needed a while to learn about it. So after many flying hours it's gonna be a girlfriend to me :P Ore is a steadicam male?

I did put some extra stuff on it and have more than i need power and video exit's on the top and bottom of the sled.

Yesterday i did a video clip on low mode with ring light 2 motors and receiver PRO 35 adapter with film lens, dimmer pack for the ring light, extra battery on the camera for dynamic balance, 2 hydron 120 battery's audio transmitter etc etc. The arm had no problems, ( only me :) ) and had plenty of capacity left.

I never good do this with a provid, so that's why my choice for the gold. In fact, i like that 3a style arm a lot.

Hope that answers your questions?

I was looking to upgrade from my sk2 with providarm to a complete provid to have dynamic balance and some more weight on the arm. To be hounest, i really did´nt wanted a tiffen rig anymore because of my reasons. Second rig was an second hand efp and third the gold. I was supprised by it preformans and the extra,s on the rig. like the 24v options and the many video and power outputs on the rig. The arm was like the 3a. I also tryd the sachtler but found the arm stiff and the rig heavy. And the price from the gold was also right, so that´s why.

Service is what you expect. My monitor was down on friday and Glidecam did send me a new one and that arrived monday evening. So service is fine.

Try it when you have a change, it,s in my opinion a very good rig. I can do al i wanted with it and more.

Hey Kapil,

The Gold is a good system, it?s just not a slick as many of the others. But you do get a lot of bang for your buck. It can handle the Arri Cameras.

Try it out, if you can get your hands on one. See if you like it. You may just prefer a PRO or Tiffen model.

And you can check out the Glidecam Forum if you want to talk to other Glidecam Owners.
