Hey Kapil,

Glidecam just isn?t as put together as the others. To save production costs, they put things together in such a way that will still work, but not as user friendly as the others. For example, the fore/aft adjustment is in the back, not along the side of the top stage using a worm gear. That was a cheaper way of making the sled. That?s fine, but it bugs me to have to reach under the camera or mag to move the camera plate.

There are other things here and there, but like I said before, it?s not a bad system. You just might find yourself grumbling every now-and-then at some of the little things.

I personally am not a fan of the 3A sled, but it?ll handle those cameras weight wise. You?ll have to add a battery or a 12-24v converter to power those cameras.

This is my thought about it:

Yes, you can mount a 535 camera on a Gold, you can " manage" it, but to my belief this is not a rig designed for this kind of camera´s And it is not only the rig, it is the arm as well. And the vest, socket block etc.

If your main camera to use is a 535, which is an ugly heavy beast, you need a system that is designed for this.

The Gold is certainly a good system for the money, but in order to make that price they had to give up on some things, like the choice of materials, bearings, etc.

Look at it this way: you are putting a camera with lenses and accerssories, worth mayby 500.000 US dollar on a floating stick. Not just a camera, but also one of the heaviest out there...... you want to take the risk?

I´ve seen what can happen with only a 435 on my Master but where the weakest link - -not from Tiffen!!!!- collapsed and it all crashed on the concrete floor.

Other than the strength of the whole system, there is also another consideration: accessories and power supply. The gold is not really equipped for that, but can be extended for sure. I´m just not convinced that at the end, when you have added all neccesary things, you have a comparable system as the high-end systems that are really designed for this kind of camera´s.

Rob is right about this.

I?ve flown an Arri BL4 on my Gold Arm, but not regularly. I think the 535 might start to push it, a bit, if that?s all you?re flying. I fly the MovieCam Compact often, but I?m not sure how that compares to the 535B as far as weight (don?t even think about putting a 535A on the Gold Arm?you will destroy it).

Your best bet, ultimately, might be to mix and match used gear from different sources. Part of me wishes I had done that.

But I?ve got to say, the Gold Vest is one of my favorites. Other than the Klassen Harnesses, I recommend that as one of my top choices.

Just so you know, my ideal rig would be:

PRO Sled

PRO Arm

MK-V Gimbal

Glidecam Gold Vest and/or Klassen Harness

That?s what I?m most comfortable in. But then again, that?s just me.
