There's also some more info on www.lenswoman.com in her Union section. Hawaii falls into the District 2 / Western Region but whether Hawaii is a right to work state or not is something you'll have to find out if you don't already know the answer. I'm a member of the Local 720 in Las Vegas as well and it's completely loosey goosey there as to who gets on jobs or not. The biggest hurdle here in LA is getting on the Industry Experience Roster which is administrated by the Contract Services Administration Trust Fund. If you don't know what that is yet, dig in because there's not enough pixels on the Forum to try to explain that whole process. After you get on the IER, then you go through the Safety Pass Program, apply to the 600 and write one big check or a medium check and two years of smaller checks. The initiation fee is substantial and a bit of a bite but so is losing a job opportunity if you're not a member if that were to ever be the case. Premium Members Kris Torch Wilson Posted July 30, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 30, 2008 aloha dude, bad news about the house. Hope the bastards fall into a volcano. several years ago before I was in the union, I worked on several union jobs as a contractor. the problem was with the stagehands that found out and refused to help. we were in atlantic city and i think the producer greased a palm or two just to get through the day. he then politely told me he couldn't use me again until I joined. i have been on several jobs here recently where the jib op was non union and billed through his company without any problems, so it can be done.
