NEW TV Logic 7" Monitor

Ok Guys,

I have been putting off telling you all about this "LVM - 071W NEW! 7" TV Logic monitor until I could get mine an give you a proper review but I checked out the factory set model on the set the other day and inside it's really great! but outdoors it sucks. Also, I didn't want you guys to inundate them with phone calls and freak them out since they are still developing it.

 

I plugged in HD/SDI and analog and all three looked great. It has built in Frame line Generator, waveform & vectorscope, Tally, Battery attachment, 12V and more

 

So I had a long conversation with the distributer and techs and they are working on getting the backlight turned up they are replacing the shiny plastic LCD cover with an anti reflective cover so that it may be much more usable outdoors.

 

I told them I would rep these monitors if they can achieve a usable outdoor level, I also asked if they could put in an Electronic level, they were stumped by that question . . .LOL . . .

 

But I have to say for the price and the bang for the buck this monitor ROCKS . . .at $2500-$3000

 

I'll be getting mine this week . . . .so they say, and I'll give you the further run down.

 

It's no Transvideo but it's not $8000 iether . . . .

 

Let me know what you guys think, and I already told them I have 5 sold and there most likely will be alot more so maybe I can rep these and get us all a break . . .

Tiffen is working on using this as a small HD monitor with waveform and vectorscope for the Clipper 324s (and I would assume the U2 if you wanted it). The 324 that we had at the Clipper workshop in Boulder this weekend had one of the prototypes (no anti-reflective coating).

Ok, an update to the testing of this monitor . . .

 

Yes I heard, Tiffen purchased a bunch of these as well . . . .

 

The monitor so far is really great "Inside" :-(

 

The anti reflective cover that was put on is soooo not anti-reflective, as a matter of fact it has some sort of purple hue to it if you look at it at just the right angle but you can still use it for a mirror. Its just looks like a piece of plexi cut to fit over the LCD and screwed into the body of the monitor. More of a protective cover than anything else

 

I tested it the other day with and without the cover, on a bright sunny day concert shoot and lets just say I put my Transvideo back on.

 

So to date there's still not a viable answer to the 7", HD/SDI/NTSC Daybright, affordable, marketable monitor. Well, . . . . .. yes there's the bullet proof Transvideo but, Sorry Noel, I'm still don't have $7k to 8k to spend on a 6.5 " monitor.

 

I will say, the TV Logic monitor, for all the bells and whistles it has, the picture quality and the price , it makes sense to have one in your kit, at least it does for my purposes.

 

Maybe someone else can figure out how to modify this monitor and get the backlight function to exceed the 400nit mark and get a real anti reflective coating put on along with an electronic level and then we'll be all good . . . .

The prototype that Tiffen had on the 324 had an electronic level. I suspect that after Tiffen is done with them they'll be putting proper AR film on it.

Thats the same monitor we had in May.

 

Its been said before, it looks good inside. But it is was useless outside while we were using it, not bright enough and the cover became a mirror.

 

Personally I just got a new tiffen 7" daybright and am very happy with it.

 

In the next 12 to 24 months we are going to see the OLED monitors hitting the market. They will make a big impact for us.

We at the World wide leader recently bought 2 of these monitors. One came with our new C312 and one for our EFP upgrade.

 

I agree with all of Rob's findings and have found another potential issue they might want to look into.

 

I was out in Oakland shooting Monday Night Football. I was using a camera RF (Feedom!!!) and found that if I was near anyone using a wakie talkie or other transmitting device my screen would go blue until I could move away or position myself to use my body to block the signal best I could.

 

 

The RF tech and I though maybe if I terminated the unused inputs on the back of the monitor I would help the monitor deal with interference. But to no luck. So then I thought the maybe the thin coax I was using might not have thick enough shielding to block out the various RF signals I was getting into. So I swapped out to thicker coax for my monitor feeds. But I still kept getting blue screen.

 

Luckly for the most part I was able to get my shots with no issues.

 

 

My RF tech and I seem to think that the shielding, if any, inside the monitor might not be enough to block random RF signals.

 

But other than that the forn the money this monitor rocks. Hopefully I get the chance to use it at this years Winter X. I will give a full report of the monitors cold weather performance.

I'm glad you brought that up Eric, I was wondering what the heck was going on with mine as well, every time I keyed my walkie the screen would flip out, go blue or just get all fuzzy . . .interesting . . . I will have to put a call into the manufacturer . . .
