I have heard much happiness when folks talk of their boland and transvideo hd monitors.

I'm in the process of buying a transvideo monitor...I like it over the boland and tiffen because of the size, capabilities, viewing angle and performance in the sun...

but, anyone know of alternatives to pro's HD upgrade?

I can't wait to see the 6.5 boland with 2100 nits in the sun as well as take the transvideo for a test drive. I think the boland is about half the cost but doesn't have a frameline generator and the cinemonitor hd is practically water-proof (Chris' jungle shoot).

I can't wait to see the boland 6.5 either. That is just the problem. I have been on the phone with them, but can't seem to get a date or time to let me drop by to see it. May have to wait till cinegear (if they are there). I was told the price on the 6.5 was around $3400. They also said frameline generator was in the works, but not anytime soon.

It would be nice to get a bunch of different monitors together to test them. LCD versus LCD and Green Screen.

I'm happy to bring mine. IMP/Blackbird

I think of: Tiffen Ultrabright, Boland HD or SD, Transvideo (HD and SD), Lumavec/IMP, XCS, PRO, MK-V Hummingbird, .....

Gents--

I would be happy to bring my Boland 8.4 to a shootout.

A note about the 6.5 Boland: it mounts in the same aluminum case as the 8.4 so I don't see a size benefit there and the additional brightness might be moot since the 1400 nit 8.4 is plenty as I have used it in full sun with total snow cover to boot and no worries!

On my rig, I can run HD-SDI down my post, direct to the monitor, loop through the monitor and feed HD-SDI into my Decimator thus giving me composite SD into my sled which contains a video DA. From there, I have my SD for transmitter, recorder, and SD back into the monitor for my on-screen level and framelines.

Hi guys:

The aforementioned manufacturers and more have been contacted about the shoot-out. Jens, you mentioned both Lumavec/IMP and Hummingbird--one and the same products, no??

Jess, I have asked Tiffen about bringing an OLED and another manufacturer who has not yet responded.

We will have as many LCD's as possible. We will have a TB6 there as comparison but I have been intending this to be about flat panels, primarily HD as this is obviously where things are going, and thus have not been focusing on CRT's.

"Jens, you mentioned both Lumavec/IMP and Hummingbird--one and the same products, no??"

Hi Charles,

they are not the same monitors. They are using the same panel but very different software. The MK-V Hummingbird version is very limited in terms of image adjustments. I owned both at one point and now own two IMP/Lumavec Blackbirds.

The Blackbird version in my eyes is far superior over the MK-V version, also some of the MK-V's have a mixed up Brightness/Contrast control which does not help.

Lumavec is in the process of designing their new models and asked me for some end-user input, which I gave them I while back.

I was over at Tiffen (Glendale) today. They are investigating the possibility of mounting their HD Ultrabright II monitor on the HD-SDI Pro II sled. Also, the HD Ultrabright II will get a new, lower pricing come Cinegear.

Hd Ultrabright

They had mentioned that at NAB
