Premium Members Nicholas Davidoff Posted September 20, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 20, 2008 Does anyone know what the current options are for a detachable tilt stage? I read some posts and checked the net and can't seem to find a solid answer. I'm aware of Tiffen's integral tilt stage but what about us Pro, MKV or XCS owners? I checked Chrosziel and Baer Bel and came up blank. Who makes a tlit stage and how can I get one? Any info is appreciated.
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted September 20, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 20, 2008 I could be totally wrong but I thought the tilting stage was some kind of Tiffen patented thing... at least that is my vague understanding of it. On the other hand it could be a philosophical design preference. There is one thing I do know and that is I can't imagine not having a tilting stage on my rig; it's a rare shot that I don't use it...but that is just my preference and how I learned. Premium Members Charles King Posted September 21, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 21, 2008 So if the tilting stage is patented, why does Betz have it for sale? So I guess this means a day in court?

Premium Members Thomas English Posted September 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 26, 2008 The Betz plate is strong and awesome. I love it.
Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted September 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 26, 2008 Seconded. Bomb-proof. I may be wrong, and I'm not sure of how designs compare, but the patent may argued not to be infringed, as it isn't actually a tilting topstage - it is a tilt plate which sits between the post and whichever topstage you have... Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted September 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 26, 2008 Plus some similar items such as tilting low mode brackets and wedge plates existed before tiffens tilting top stage or their patent. ~Jess
Premium Members luis castro Posted October 4, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 4, 2008 stage was some of Tiffen patented for Mr Garret ,the other marks are imitations
Premium Members Lawrence Karman Posted October 5, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 The Betz plate is strong and awesome. I love it. Does the tilt pale require the gimbal position on the post to be lower than if it was not there for clearance and to allow additional space for docking? Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted October 5, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 Lawrence- Yes, Betz's unit will add height, making the sled longer with heavy cameras (you can't get gimbal as close to the stage.) It's one reason why the integral tilt head is integral, and the stage is a s thin as possible with the Ultras, Clippers, and Archers. Betz copied the design (the european patent is pending...) so it's less than gentlemanly... and of course it has some drawbacks as an add-in, but it functions - no surprise - just like the "real thing." Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted October 5, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 5, 2008 looks like it adds a pound and 1.7 inches in height. The weight might not be a huge deal, but the height addition is a bummer.
