BeBob and ENG Lens Pin-outs

I've had a couple live gigs come up recently. I don't do much ENG work, but I picked myself up a Bebob-ZOE-8 from B&H since it was relatively cheap and will probably prove itself useful at some point. Bebob makes two of these models - one 8 pin, and one 12 pin. This one is the 8.

 

I'm guessing I should be able to make an adapter or adapters for when I'm working with 12pin lenses. The unit I purchased came with zero in terms of user manuals, and the Bebob website does not seem to have up-to-date downloads available. Does anyone know the pin configuration for this 8 pin unit? If anyone has the configs for the ENG (Canon, Fujinon, Ang) lenses readily available, that would be great too, though I'm sure I can dig up that info somewhere here or elsewhere.

First off, the bebob is great! perfectly smooth and i love it much more than the j-7 or stanton's mammoth grip zoom, which I hate.

 

If your controller is 8 pin you should be all set for canon lenses. I know Stanton sells a canon-to-12pin fuji adapter for about $100. And would probably be the easiest option.

As for angenieux, I thought they were also 8 pin, but I could be very wrong- they are not nearly as popular.

 

If you still want to make your own, i'll try to find the pin info in the next couple days if you have no luck with your research.

Did you by any chance check out the Libec ZC-9PRO controller from B&H for $229. There was also a 8 to 12 pin adaptor available but doesn't seem to be offered there now.

:D I'm really happy with it's performance and robust construction. I especially like the swinging mounting clamp which make it easy to get on and off my Master's gimbal.

One of the cameramen I work with from time to time has this Libec controller - I'd written it off for Steadicam work though, as when I tried it with his setup on the sticks, it didn't seem to feather as nicely as I wanted it to, and the cable was horrible - too thick and chunky for my liking. Have you had yours modified, or are you happy with it?

 

I do like the Zoe - the newest model is auto sensing on 8-pin Canon/Fuji lenses - the pinout is available by doing a forum search here. The zoom pot is just reversed on the pins between the two lens types.

Admittedly it's not as good as a higher end controller but I only use it for quick reframes and not really on-air zooms so it's not really an issue for me. Yes the cable is thick but pretty indestructable considering the abuse it can take. Also the way I have it looped to the lens doesn't create enough resistance to be a problem for me especially during live sports or music concerts etc. which are not that critical for precision as feature or series work where I'd drag out the remote FF & zoom kit.

 

I just throw it out there as a reasonable cheap alternative to have in your kit but it may not suit everyone.
