I am looking for someone to build me a Rickshaw. Any advice??? Any info would be greatly appreciated, email me direct.

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Jeff, Take a look at the Shotsaver Steadi-Dolly. Most vesatile, will work as a rickshaw, dolly you can mount to or use standing platform and step-off, interchangeable wheels to go fast or balloon tires for Sand. Mfg. by Backstage, Inc. North Hollywood,Ca. ask for Sig (818)504-6026.

I bought one.

The one thing I have alsways liked about Larry's design over the typical "bolt a socket block to a pole" design was that with the offset there is now cearance under the garfield so you don't have to work with the rig as far out.

I like Backstage's ideas and flexibility, though I found the way the central post mounts to be really wonky and flexed too much with weight on it (they were unwilling to beef it up at that time). I am guessing they fixed this in recent years -- have not tried one since '07/08.

That one looks cool Sanjay but its around 10,000 euros! There is always Jay Daltons Rickshaw in New York

I had no idea it was 10,000/- euros !!!

Hans was my best boy grip on The Bourne Supremacy, and an ace machinist.

Maybe I'll qualify for a discount :-)

I actually saw the rickshaw that Sanjay posted about at NAB - JL Fisher had one. Apparently they're repping that rickshaw in the States, and you can rent one through them. It looked incredibly nice, had great breaks, all the best bells and whistles. Makes sense though when I now know that it's $10,000!

Maybe I'll have to try my hand at building one of these as a project... seems like an interesting little engineering challenge!

If you decide to build your own, just remember what can happen when you hang that much weight off the front! Keep in mind that to perform well, the machine must be able to adapt to different demands on it's performance based on shot design and location issues.

Don't let your director ride, as Ron suggests, instead make him/her push you around and you can impress them even more by providing a monitor for them to watch while they work out during the shots! Keep in mind how you will need to break it down to transport and ship it as well.

The Mantis looks good, but like anything built in the UK, cannot be cheap.

See how comfy the operators position looks ;)

Yeah not quite sure about that picture lol, but i've used one and I managed to get into a nice comfortable position on it.

Just a question but does the rickshaw dolly come with some kind of seatbelt or something?

Not quite sure how sure how I would feel about being seated for a running shot without being strapped in somehow.

Also can it be converted to some kind of upright walk on/walk off mode?

Nothing I can see on the website about that at the moment.

It does look very nicely made......
